EntWine pilot in the Margaret
River wine region
Delivered by Winewatch and funded
by the federal government’s Caring
for our Country.
Objectives of the pilot:
• to evaluate the draft Freshcare
Codes and EntWine program and
provide feedback to WFA.
• to provide encouragement and
support to companies in the MR
wine region to achieve certification.
Progress to date
•
16 vineyards, 2 vineyard
management companies and 10
wineries have completed Freshcare
Environmental training
•
Draft Freshcare Environmental
Codes were reviewed at the training
and feedback provided to WFA.
Codes have now been finalised.
•
One-on-one visits currently being
undertaken
Feedback on Freshcare
Environmental
•
Generally a positive response.
•
Currently doing most of what’s required within
the accepted good agricultural and winery
practice sections of the Codes.
•
More paperwork, however it was considered
that planning, keeping records and reviewing
are good business practices that all should be
employing.
•
External assistance may be needed for the
biodiversity and environmental action planning
sections of the Codes as the requisite skills
and knowledge are not widespread within the
industry.
