Checklist: Conducting Interviews Prior to Interviews Commencing Ensure room/s and seating are arranged appropriately and water is available for the panel and applicants. Check video conferencing facilities are operational. Brief selection panel on interviews; the process to be followed and obligations relation to privacy and equity. Allocate who will ask each question if this has not been previously arranged. Provide an opportunity for panel members to ask questions and clarify any points prior to commencing interviews. During each Interview Provide the applicant with a clean glass of water. Set the Scene: Provide a brief summary of the position, the interview process to be followed and advise panel members will be taking notes during the interview. Ask each applicant the pre-determined questions, seeking clarification or further detail where necessary. Ask the applicant if they have anything further to add in support of their application and if they have any questions. Advise the applicant of salary and entitlements Greet the applicant and introduce panel members. When interviewing you are assessing for organisational fit as well as skills, knowledge and experience. So far as possible, endeavour to make the interview a conversation rather than an interrogation. This will help the applicant to relax and enable you to get a sense of the person in front of you. Confirm nominated referees with the applicant Advise the applicant of the process following interviews (reference checks etc) and when they can expect to be notified of the outcome. Thank applicant for attending. At the Conclusion of Interviews (Post Discussion) Instruct selection committee members to individually rank applicants Agree on a preferred applicant and any further applicant’s deemed ‘eligible’ to fill the role. Facilitate committee discussion to determine applicant rankings taking into account each applicant’s application, interview and any skills assessment results forming part of the selection process. Complete the Selection Committee Report and Recommendation for Appointment and facilitate approval by delegated officer
