Capstone Experience
Dyson College’s Mathematics Department at Pace University’s Pleasantville Campus is
committed to providing students with a supportive learning environment
that includes small classes, which allow productive interaction, and personalized
attention and guidance from dedicated faculty. We employ the latest technology
to help students succeed. We offer online instruction, using interactive websites
that give students instant feedback on their work, and employ the Blackboard internet
system to enhance communication between faculty members and students. Our
programs are designed to provide students with the mathematics skills they will
need to compete successfully in today’s challenging job market.
All of our programs include a capstone
course in which each student is
required to complete a research
project under the guidance of the
instructor and present the results
of the research to students in the
class and members of the faculty.
Class size
Class size is deliberately kept small
so that faculty members and students
get to know each other and work
effectively together to create an
interactive and successful learning
environment.
Internships
BA IN MATHEMATICS
This course of study offers a greater number of elective credits than the BS degree,
making it ideal for those students who wish to apply their training in mathematics,
critical thinking, and problem solving in another area of interest, such as economics or
computer science. Students are encouraged to choose a second major or select
up to two minors by using the elective credits provided by this major.
BS IN MATHEMATICS
This degree helps prepare students for employment in quantitative or technical
fields, such as actuarial science or statistics, or for graduate work. Students are
advised to choose a minor designed to enhance their professional aspirations.
COMBINED BA IN ADOLESCENT EDUCATION AND
MATHEMATICS
This program permits students who wish to pursue a career in teaching mathematics
to earn a double major in Adolescent Education and Mathematics, providing the
student with the required education in both teaching and mathematics that
employers seek.
COMBINED BA IN MATHEMATICS AND MST IN ADOLESCENT
EDUCATION
The combined degree program in Mathematics and Adolescent Education leads to a Bachelors
of Arts in Mathematics and Masters of Science for Teachers in Adolescent Education (Grades
7-12). At the undergraduate level, students will complete a major in Mathematics. At the
graduate level, candidates will complete the educational components required to fulfill the
requirement for the initial and professional certificates in Mathematics.

Our internship program enables
qualified students to pursue an
internship at one of the many
corporations in the Hudson Valley.
Such an experience broadens a
student’s perspective and provides
the opportunity to apply knowledge
in a professional setting that can
often lead to full-time employment.
Dedicated Faculty
Members of our faculty are nurturing
teachers and advisors, as well as
researchers, who are easily accessible
to students. Faculty members also
provide independent learning
opportunities on a one-to-one basis
for qualified students.
Student Honor Society
Students who attain high achievement
in mathematics can become members
of the Kappa Mu Epsilon National
Honor Society in Mathematics.
