ECONOMICS, HISTORY & POLITICAL SCIENCE | PLV HISTORY, BA Welcome to the Department of Economics, History, and Political Science on Pace University’s Pleasantville campus. Courses offered by our department provide students with the tools necessary for a better understanding of business, history, political science, law – or simply a thorough grasp of what makes the world tick. This degree program prepares students for careers in law, education, publishing, di p l o m a c y, m u s e u m s, an d pu bl ic administration. Concentrations are offered in U.S., European, and NonWestern History. The major may be combined with a number of different minors including Modern Languages, Economics, Management, Marketing and Law. For History majors who wish to accelerate, there are combined undergraduate/graduate programs. The department offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics, Political Science, and History, as well a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics. Minors in Economics, African and African-American Studies, East Asian Studies, History, Middle Eastern Studies, and Political Science are also available. The rigor of our major and minor programs enables students to compete successfully in an ever more challenging world; yet the programs are flexible enough to allow students to meet their individual educational goals. Independent research opportunities abound through seminars, independent studies, and tutorials. Internships are also available in all three disciplines, and like our traditional and online courses, they afford students an opportunity to interact with faculty members who are not only knowledgeable but friendly and approachable. During their entire time in the department, a faculty adviser/mentor will work closely with them to ensure academic success at Pace and to provide a superior level of guidance in the areas of graduate/professional school selection and career exploration. ECONOMICS, BA This degree program is ideal for students interested in the social sciences. It allows one to take a substantial number of electives, in consultation with their advisor, in related fields such as the environment; gender, race and class studies; economic history or whatever satisfies their intellectual curiosity. BUSINESS ECONOMICS, BS This degree program combines the traditional Economics curriculum with a business core including courses such as Accounting, Finance and business law taken from Pace’s highly regarded Lubin School of Business. POLITICAL SCIENCE, BA Students of political science learn that they are engaged in a living discipline that extends far beyond classroom walls. Through exposure not only to political theory and concepts - but to practical experiences and internships, interaction with real policy-makers, and primary sources of international news and information - students develop the critical insights, skills, and contacts needed to succeed in the real-world. www.pace.edu/dyson/econhistorypolisci ECONOMICS, HISTORY & POLITICAL SCIENCE | PLV ACCELERATED DEGREE PROGRAMS CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE Students can expect engrossing debates in a friendly atmosphere and lively lectures by knowledgeable faculty who will challenge students to think critically, and grow academically and professionally, in order to meet the career opportunities of the 21st century. FACULTY The faculty of the department includes nationally and internationally recognized scholars, who are also engaging teachers, whether in the classroom or online. Their scholarship is evidenced by their numerous books, monographs, and articles published in journals, newspapers, and periodicals intended for general audiences. The department’s faculty members also present their research at international, national and regional conferences. CO-CURRICULAR Model United Nations Club Students can participate in the Model United Nations’ competitions, where they are part of a team dedicated to learning how to create peace, justice, and security in the world. The experience simulates the United Nations, where students take on the role of countries, observers, and nongovernmental organizations to debate the most important issues facing the globe and acquire the skills of diplomacy, consensus –building, analysis and policy writing. Honor Societies Students meeting criteria stipulated by the national honor societies and the department are inducted as members of Omicron Delta Epsilon, Beta-Kappa of New York (Economics), Phi Alpha Theta (History) or Pi Gamma Mu (Political Science). REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE Students who choose to major or minor in any of the depar tment ’s academic disciplines have an opportunity to gain practical, resume building experience through participation in the award-winning Model United Nations team, as well as internships in museums, historical societies, archives, government agencies, and think tanks. HISTORY(SOCIAL STUDIES), BA/ ADOLESCENT EDUCATION, MST The combined degree program in History and Adolescent Education is offered by the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences and the Pace University School of Education. It leads to a Bachelors of Arts in History and Masters of Science for Teachers in Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12). At the graduate level, candidates will complete the requirements for the initial and professional certificates in History (Social Studies). POLITICAL SCIENCE, BA/ PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION, MPA Our Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Master of Public Administration program prepares you for an exciting career by offering you the chance to earn two degrees in as little as five years. You can apply your political theories into government, non-profit, environmental management or healthcare administration.
