CRIMINAL JUSTICE
& SECURITY | NYC/PLV
BS IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE
Exciting and relevant coursework
includes criminology, investigation,
criminal law, evidence and procedure,
police-community relations, community
policing, terrorism, probation, and
corrections. Students are encouraged
to minor in a subject area that will
increase their marketability, such
as computer science, a foreign language
or psychology.
Call it the “Law & Order effect.” Thanks to the popular television show, awareness
of criminal justice careers is growing. Due in part to increased security after 9/11
and advances in technology, both law enforcement and private sector security
continue to be two of the fastest growing fields of this decade. If you are passionate
about problem solving and making a difference, criminal justice could be the major
for you. As a criminal justice major at Pace University’s Dyson College of Arts and
Sciences, you will leverage your outstanding analytical skills while feeding your
natural curiosity. Our undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Criminal
Justice (CRJ) prepares students for work in law enforcement-related jobs and for
graduate school in law, homeland security, public administration, criminal justice,
psychology, social work and sociology. Our curriculum is responsive to the marketplace so that when you graduate your skill-set and knowledge will prepare you for
a rewarding professional career.
Pace University, in partnership with the Center for Homeland Defense and Security,
is now offering an executive master’s degree, the Master of Arts in Management for
Public Safety and Homeland Security Professionals. This program combines theory
and practice to prepare public- and private-sector law enforcement, military, fire,
public health, and other safety and security professionals to prevent and respond
to crime, terrorist attacks, and safety hazards.
Approximately 25% of our CRJ students go on to law school, and a growing number
are now entering our MS in homeland security program.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Our undergraduate students have
successfully moved into careers in
law enforcement with some of the
following employers:
INTERNSHIPS
The Pace Internship program, the largest in the New York Metropolitan Area, assists
Pace students in obtaining paid and unpaid professional internships related to
their major. Each year more than 1,200 Pace students work in internship positions
with more than 300 partner companies. Criminal justice majors have many
opportunities to intern with various local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies,
such as with the U.S. Marshals, local prosecutors, and juvenile justice agencies.
Students may earn academic credit for an internship, and many internships lead
to jobs upon graduation.
CAREER PLANNING
Each year, we host a Criminal Justice Career Day where students meet employers
from more than 30 government agencies and gain valuable insight into career
opportunities. These events have given our students first-hand information on hiring
exams and career opportunities, and many land jobs with the FBI, Secret Service,
DEA, and other branches of government under the Department of Homeland
Security. In addition, we are proud to say that New York City police, Westchester
County police departments and beyond (California, New Hampshire, etc.), are the
home of many of our alumni.
THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SOCIETY
The Criminal Justice Society student-led club provides resume-building professional
experiences outside the classroom. Members attend lectures, professional meetings,
hands-on activities, and special events. By getting involved, you can make new
friends and develop a network of colleagues.
STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES
A variety of scholarship opportunities are available to our CRJ students. Elaine Tatis
’09, who is passionate about fighting cybercrime, received a scholarship from the
Department of Defense that included full tuition and a stipend, allowing her to intern
with the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C., during academic breaks,
which guaranteed her full-time employment upon graduation.
