Vienna was a birthplace of aesthetic
modernism. It was the home of
Wittgenstein, Mahler, Schoenberg, Freud,
Schiele, and Karl Kraus. But Kafka was from
Prague. Is Kafka's modernism similar to or
different from that of Vienna? This lecture
will explore some of the common ground
between Kafka and the modernists of
Vienna, especially his unexpected affinities
with Arnold Schoenberg.
