RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Research Assistant - September 2008 to May 2009
Lead a team of senior citizens through weekly group exercises and performance skills so as to
improve their cognition and perform a final group project. Used information gathered through
these group meetings to record and score data to aid in research on memory and cognition in
senior citizens.

Research Assistant – September 2006 to December 2006
Analyzed and organized statistics regarding the differences between male and female brain size
and translated the information into graphical form for Professor Leigh’s use in a comparative
study to understand the development of primates and its implications on human development.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Community Crisis Center- Elgin, Illinois
Bilingual Domestic Violence Court Advocate – August 2009 to July 2012
Provide legal advocacy and support to Spanish-speaking victims of domestic abuse. Aid victims of
domestic violence in obtaining Orders of Protection against their abusers to ensure the victim’s
safety. Supply victims with ongoing advocacy by providing other counseling and legal resources
after the Order of Protection or criminal case has been resolved.
University of Illinois Foundation – Champaign, Illinois
Student Development Representative - June 2006 to May 2008
Garnered donations from community members and University alumni to aid in scholarship
funding, academic programs and school-wide initiatives at the University of Illinois.
CONFERENCES/TEACHING
Presenter, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault training, (July 2009)
Legal Advocacy in Domestic Violence: Presented on the various issues that arise when dealing
with Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in the legal arena, as well as the procedure and
requirements for gaining an Order of Protection for victims.
Presenter/Coach, Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology (May 2009)
Odyssey of the Mind: Presented and coached program members of the Odyssey of the Mind
tournament, including mentoring teams, organizing volunteers and speaking to members about
how to best represent the individual teams.
Presenter, Elgin Public Schools, Illinois (December 2010 and October 2011)
Domestic Violence in the Home: Presented to Spanish-speaking middle school aged children and
adults in an adult language learning course about the signs of domestic violence, legal options and
counseling services.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
V-Day University of Illinois – Urbana, Illinois
Director - January 2009 to May 2009
Directed “A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer” in support of the local chapter of VDay.org, an organization which advocates the end of violence against girls and women through
public performances. Raised awareness for The Woman’s Fund, which raises money for local
women’s domestic violence shelters and educates the public on women’s health issues.
Hurricane Katrina Relief through Catholic Charities- New Orleans, LA
Volunteer- January 2007
Volunteered gutting houses in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
