Social Superstar Spotlight
ReSource Fort Collins: Revisions Sustainable Art Show
“Social responsibility needs to be adaptable,” urges
Kendol Gustafson, manager of the Fort Collins organization
ReSource. When ReSource—a non-profit organization
dedicated to conservation through creative landfill diversion
programs—joined Social Superstars in 2012, it had an
employee-led project underway called the Revisions
Sustainable Art Show (Revisions).
Revisions, created to include the interest of Gustafson’s
employees, encompasses many aspects of social responsibility
and represents something invaluable; an organization’s
positive social impact on the community. Since its launch in
2007, Revisions has raised thousands of dollars for local nonprofits, exposed budding local artists to the Fort Collins art
scene and highlighted creative ways reclaimed materials can
be used in our everyday lives.
The social impact of Revisions has clear community benefits. It invites participation that
crosses cultural lines and encourages interaction between Fort Collins residents. Artists, art
lovers, environmentalists, sustainable builders and anyone with a creative spirit can appreciate
this inclusive event.
When asked if he had any advice for other businesses looking to achieve stronger social
ties to employees and customers, Gustafson advises to “stay true to what’s important to you,”
because it’s the best way to find your niche. The community’s jubilant response to the event
reaffirms that ReSource has created a project positive with social impact.
To Gustafson, it has become clear that being part of a social impact program like Social
Superstars is not just about raising money or business exposure. More so it’s about “practicing
what you preach.” The ReSource team hopes that Social Superstar’s will increase awareness of
socially responsible business practices that are inclusive to everyone at an organization as well
as its community.
