Superstar Gallegos Sanitation Inc.’s (GSI)
“Back to School Employee Refund
Program” helps employees with school supply
costs each year.
Annually, many parents have to deal with the
financial stress of back-to-school time and
GSI’s “Back to School Refund Program” is
meant to alleviate some the stress for GSI families. Each employee is eligible to receive
$50 per child for school supplies and up to $150 per household. Employees simply
submit their receipts from school supply purchases and get reimbursed by GSI.
Kari Gallegos-Doering, GSI’s special projects coordinator, facilitated with the GSI Green
Team to develop the program and continues to evaluate its effectiveness. She noted
that GSI’s owners have been inspired by the thank you messages expressing gratitude
for the reimbursement, which has allowed them to understand firsthand how important
the program is to GSI employees.
“Our most valuable assets are our people and we truly care for our employees on a
personal level,” Kari stated. She adds, “There are numerous ways to have a social
impact and often small actions can have a large impact.” In the case of the “Back to
School Employee Refund Program”, it turns out that what may appear to be a relatively
small amount of resources dedicated to assist employees, has had a big impact.
