City of Fort Collins: Plant it Forward

Social Superstars Spotlight
City of Fort Collins - Plant It Forward
In 2011, the City of Fort Collins’ Gardens on
Spring Creek in partnership with the Food
Bank for Larimer County launched an
initiative called Plant It Forward. Plant It
Forward focuses on bringing produce grown
in backyards and local farms to low-income
families. In 2013, the program yielded
11,707 pounds of fresh produce and this
year’s goal is to donate 15,000 pounds.
“We want people to have access to fresh,
local food” City of Fort Collins Sustainability Coordinator Rosemarie Russo exclaims.
The Gardens on Spring Creek grows food in its Garden of Eatin’ and holds cooking and
food preservation workshops on site, offering a complete “seed to table” experience.
Plant It Forward is as much about food education and community engagement as it is
about ensuring all families have access to great local food.
Have an abundant harvest you’d like to contribute this year? Food donations are being
accepted at the Gardens on Spring Creek, the Food Bank and other Neighborhood
Champion locations.
