Cargill Specialty Seeds and Oils - Employee Garden
Cargill Specialty Seeds and Oils
coworkers are focused on healthy,
fresh food. Initially an idea tossed
around at a sustainability event,
Cargill coworkers decided to start a
large employee garden.
It soon became clear that the
garden nurtures more than just
food. It offers coworkers common
ground and is a place to connect on
a personal level and build stronger
working relationships.
“I think it’s unique to not rush away from work when the day is up” exclaims Candace
Carter. Candace is a Cargill greenhouse technician and employee garden champion.
“The garden offers enjoyment and opportunity for people.”
In addition to being a place to build relationships and a source for fresh, healthy food,
the employee garden initiative offers community benefits. In 2013, 1,100 pounds of
produce were donated to the Food Bank for Larimer County. Employees also sold meals
created with garden ingredients to benefit the United Way of Larimer County.
What started as a trial run has proven to be a great success for Cargill coworkers. The
garden and the partnerships associated with it have allowed Cargill to share its message
about the importance of providing healthy food to the Fort Collins community.
