Dr. Naomi Koltun-Fromm, Haverford College
Scholars of early Islamic history and texts
suggest that early Muslim interest in
Jerusalem and especially its acclaimed Rock
of Foundation was directly influenced by
their understanding of Jerusalem’s religious
significance to both Jews and Christians.
This lecture will show how formative Muslim
traditions, with their innovative interpretation
of the earlier sources, also influence
later Christian and Jewish eschatological
understandings of Jerusalem.
