Jackies Butte HMA-Approximately 47,828 acres (73%) of the HMA
Coyote Lake HMA-Approximately 16,343 acres are within the fire perimeter
*Only two studs and one colt died as a direct result of this fire. 195 wild horses are in the process
of being gathered to be placed in holding facilities until the rangelands within the HMA have
recovered. Monitoring of water resources continues on Coyote Lake as this is the limiting factor.
WEEDS
There are approximately 700 acres infested with noxious weed in the northern area of this fire.
WILDERNESS STUDY AREAS
Owyhee River Canyon Wilderness Study Area (WSA)-31,258 acres within the fire perimeter
Bowden Hills WSA-58,953 acres within the fire perimeter
Alvord Desert WSA-16,174 acres within the fire perimeter
WILDERNESS CHARACTERISTICS
206, 483 acres within the fire perimeter are lands found to have Wilderness Characteristics in the
most current inventory update.
AREA OF CRITERICAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN
100% of the 148 acres Mendi Gore Playa Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC)/
Research Natural Area (RNA) is within the fire perimeter.
