SUMMARY:
had called Nick about the bike trail, and was interested in knowing more
about options for equestrian trails, so he referred her to me. She had also heard about the 6/25
RVETA meeting that I had been at, and wanted more information about why the trail was not
being planned for equestrian use. She lives up Queens Branch Rd and rides with others from the
Wimer area. Because she has relatives who have worked for BLM in the past, she said she can
sympathize with the balancing acts we do in our jobs.
She was asked by her equestrian group to call and see what they could do to find riding options in
the bike trail project area. She said her group wanted a tour by BLM of the proposed project area.
I explained how the bike trail project came about, and that it was proposed, scouted, and planned
by a local biking group, and that if equestrian groups did the same thing, BLM would respond to
their request. I explained that unless agreements could be worked out with private landowners,
that it was best to look for blocks or linked areas of public lands for trails and trailheads.
She asked for maps, so I offered to print up 1inch to the mile transportation maps which show
ownership for her group to use, and left them at the front desk for her to pick up later in the week.

I didn't have time to write and submit my comment sheet at the public meeting the other night at the church
in Rogue River. I'm hoping that this email can be used in the same way. My comment is below...

I fully support this project. The demand for additional trails is has been and continues to grow - this is made clear
by the significant amount of illegal trail building that has been done throughout the West in the past 10 years.
This has led to unsafe and environmentally unsound construction of trails. Aside from the growing recreation
facility demand by the public, establishment of additional trails supports public health and fitness, as well as
giving kids and teens healthy, positive activities to participate in. Again, I fully support this project.
