Hello TrishThank you very much for your call and providing your correct email.
I wanted to be sure and let you know that there are many of us who strongly support the addition of mountain
bike trails in Southern Oregon. There seems to be more and more people interested in getting out on their bikes
and enjoying what this area has to offer.
The trail near Rogue River seems to have great potential to be enjoyed by our local residents.
I would like to be added to your email list regarding this and any other local mountain bike trail projects.
Thank you,

Hello:
I have lived about 1/4 mile from a Cathedral Hills trailhead for over 10 years. Before
the trailhead went in, I was very skeptical especially since there were many undesirables
loitering nearby.
But contrary to my reservations, the results of this trailhead and improved walking and
biking trails has been very positive. Now the undesirables have been replaced by
individuals and families enjoying healthy recreation. The criminal element has actually
been reduced and the parking areas are cleaner than in the past.
My wife and I love to walk and hike Southern Oregon tails.
Since I work in Rogue River, I also see the need and am excited to hear about the
Mountain of the Rogue Trail Project. I would love to have more recreational options in
the beautiful Rogue River area.
I believe this project will benefit the local economy and I support it.
Thanks for helping make this possible,

Greetings,
I just heard today about the possibility of a new trail system in Rogue River. Very exciting. Please consider
making the future trails open to horses as well. It would be fantastic to be able to ride beautiful trails close by.
Thank you, for the consideration.

I understand that you are in the beginning stages of planning a new trail system in Rogue River and that the initial
plan is for this to be a mountain bike/hiking trail.
I am disappointed tha currently, NO HORSES would be allowed on the trail system.
Please know that I want the trail (or at least parts of the trail) to be multi-use and horses welcomed.
Unfortuately, I am not able to attend your meeting today at tarasco's in Rogue River; but I wanted to voice my
opinion.
Thank you.

at the church located next door to the proposed trailhead. He
called with several questions about the trail, in order to report back to churchmembers.
He had several concerns: where the trailhead is in relationship to the church, possible erosion,
trash, trespass parking in the church lot, and noise. I explained where the trailhead is and that the
trail comes close to the church boundary because of dodging sensitive plants. I said if they were
concerned about bikers shortcutting onto their property, that fencing would be possible along the
property line. He said he wasn’t exactly sure where the property line is, and I told him when our
engineers go out to look at the area for the trailhead parking, they could possibly locate where the
line is.
I told him we didn’t think erosion would be a problem due to the type of soils there, and that the
trails would be designed and engineered to shed water quickly and not run down the trail. We
would armor any drainage crossings that needed it. I told him I expect the group of people who
proposed this trail to help with policing/patrolling the area, and help BLM address problems. He
asked about having a toilet at the trailhead, and I said we wouldn’t at first, but depending on the
use of the trail, that a larger parking area and toilet could be added later.
I asked him about the repeater and buried powerline running up to the top, which the trail would
cross several times. He said right now the repeater is not working, and that they hope to relocate
it. Until that happens, he thought the church would want to keep the powerline intact
underground. I said that shouldn’t be a problem, that we should be able to build over it.
He said he would report back to the church members.
said he couldn’t speak for the church,
but he was supportive of the project, and looked at it as an opportunity for his church to be
involved and interact with trail users.

SUMMARY:
is a business owner along North River Road. He called in concern with the
trailhead and the potential for increased bike use along N. River Road. He said that it is a narrow
road and that it will be dangerous for bikers and drivers. He is concerned that the City of Rogue
River will want to build a bike path from town to the trailhead and that he would be required to
pay to have his utilities fixed. I told him that we are going to build the trailhead so that people
can drive to the trailhead. I told him that some locals will probably ride from town but we don’t
expect much bike traffic on North River Road.
was also interested in the potential for camping on the route. I told him that we are not going
to manage for campsites in the initial phase of the project.

SUMMARY:
called with questions and concerns about the bike trail. He’d been out of town
and just received the flyer recently. He has two properties in
, and is not
supportive of bikers in the area. He wanted to know how the project came about and who the
proponents were, and I gave him Dean Stirm’s information. He said he’s leery of BLM being able
to police the trail. He sees problems with thieves breaking and entering on private property, and
thought bicyclists have a bad track record and are the worst group to gain compliance from. He
cited problems in the Ashland area with bikers making their own trails, and road cyclists ignoring
traffic signals.
I told him we would be having a public meeting sometime in July, and that we’d keep him
informed.
