Roxar - The Modelling Company
Quantifying Geologic Risk &
Making Faster Decisions
How much oil is in place?
Where should I drill my next well?
With RMS™ – the industry’s most integrated and powerful
geo-modelling solution you are able to gain more knowledge about
fields than ever before. Knowledge which will help you increase the
recovery rates and optimise the return of investment.
IN SUMMARY
• Handle multi-realisations and multi-scenarios all
across your workflow, from exploration to
production, even when data is rare or of poor
quality.
• Cope with complex geology using RMS cutting-edge
technologies, capturing uncertainty on an overall
vision and assessing risks related to your
volumes-in-place without compromises.
• Bridge the gaps between interpretation and
simulation. RMS integrates all your data, from seismic
to simulation, in a smooth, comprehensive and
seamless workflow.
Uniting the Asset Team
RMS is used around the world as a platform for integrating asset
teams. Supported workflows span the full spectrum of subsurface
disciplines: Geologists, Geophysicsts, Petrophysicists, and Reservoir
Engineers can share data and analyses in a shared environment with
easy access to a full range of common tools. This makes RMS ideal for
managing all stages of the asset lifecycle, from prospect screening
through production.
The reservoir management is demanding. Through over 20 years of
industry applications and continuous innovation, RMS has proven
time and time again that placing the geologic model at the center of
the of reservoir management process leads to superior decisions and
enhanced recovery. RMS empowers geoscientists to build
fit-for-purpose reservoir models that encapsulate all available data –
and quickly adjust to new facts.
Industry-Leading Geomodelling Capabilities
Many studies have shown that poor reservoir models result in
unreliable history matches and poor predictions of future
production. RMS’s structural modeling algorithms provide
unparalleled fidelity to the data in complex tectonic regimes.
Common structural headaches such as reverse faults and salt domes
can be quickly and accurately modeled and gridded for simulation.
Petrophysical and facies modeling tools help users prepare their
models for reservoir simulators.
State-of-the-Art Risk Analysis Workflows
Underpinning all workflows in RMS is the belief that by carefully
quantifying uncertainty in the data, geoscientists gain a more
accurate picture of the key risks of their asset. RMS provides
integrated, intuitive tools to let users assess uncertainty and predict
the impact of this uncertainty on decisions. From measuring
uncertainty in interpretation scenarios through powerful structural
uncertainty tools, users enhance their understanding of the
subsurface by generating plausible realizations of the reservoir. The
distribution of possible configurations can be augmented by
simulating geophysical, petrophysical, and facies parameters via
stochastic inversion, well log analysis, and sensitivity analysis.
Statistical analysis and visualization via histograms, distribution
functions, and tornado plots allow these diverse workflows to be
brought together to directly support the decision making process.

Extending the Boundaries of Interpretation
New Fault and Uncertainty Modules
With RMS 2013, users can capture uncertainty throughout the
interpretation process to levels and speeds previously unheard of,
generate multiple realizations, and build accurate and robust models
with less data and in less time.
RMS 2013 delivers new tools for analyzing structural and fault
uncertainty with interpretation uncertainty integrated with the new
uncertainty analysis tools. Using these tools and a base-case
structural model, the user can create a suite of model realizations
that satisfy external constraints, including well picks and zones,
velocity uncertainty, and horizon and fault positional uncertainty.
The technology has been shown to reduce incorrect well zonations
by as much as 95% in past applications.
RMS 2013 arms interpreters with quick and agile model building that
increases the productivity of the asset team as well as letting them
decide where the detail in the model is needed; provides new fault
and uncertainty modules that reduce incorrect well zonations; and
introduces new transmissibility upscaling tools that increase
accuracy in representing heterogeneities.
New Transmissibility Upscaling Tools
Finally, RMS 2013 comes with new upscaling tools where
transmissibility calculations and fault seal modelling can be
performed through use of the geo model, where the most accurate
information is available, rather than the traditional approach based
on the flow model. The new tools will provide increased accuracy in
the representation of heterogeneities, will circumvent
transmissibility calculations performed by the simulator, and will
allow users to model fault sealing effects at the geo model scale.
Capturing Uncertainty
Conventional geophysical interpretation today is geared towards
using thousands of individual measurements to produce just a single
model or scenario - and this despite the data being able to support
many different interpretations.
With RMS 2013, interpreters will be able to access a range of models
that calculate probabilities for different outcomes. The method is
based on uncertainty information being collected and paired with an
interpreted geobody (horizon, fault, contact etc), thereby more
accurately representing the limitations of the data and the
interpreter’s vision for the geologic structure.

This uncertainty data can then be carried through the full structural
modelling workflow, leading to multiple realizations, an accurate
statistical analysis of reservoir properties, and an improved
quantifying of uncertainty and risk.
