STEP-BY-STEP BORLAND DEVELOPER STUDIO 2006 AND ITS THIRD
PARTY COMPONENTS DEFAULT INSTALLATION
Machine specifications used for this installation:
Windows XP Pro SP2.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00 GHz.
2 GB RAM, 160 GB hdd, ATI Radeon X1050.
We are given 4 CDs of the Borland Developer Studio 2006. Let put the first CD in the drive and the
Autorun will launch the following page. We have an option to install all the components or
component by component. In our case we click the Install Borland Developer Studio 2006 menu to
install all the components.

The following is the Bootstrap utility that will check the pre-requisites component for Borland
Developer Studio 2006. If there are no pre-requites component(s) or just partly installed, BDS 2006
installation wizard will install those component(s). We click the Next button.

Seems the .NET Framework v1.1 is not install, so we just click the Yes button else the installation
won’t continue. Though the Win XP machine used for this installation already has .NET Framework
1.1 installed, it can’t detect it.

The .NET Framework 1.1 component is installed.

The .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 detected not installed, so the installation will begin. Just
click the Yes button.

The EULA page is displayed and we need to accept the EULA else BDS 2006 won’t install and the
process will be terminated. We must read all the EULA content.

The following is the progress bar for the .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installation. Just wait.

The SP 1 successfully installed. Then click the OK button.

Then the .NET Framework SDK 1.1 also not detected and the installation will begin. Click the Yes
button.

Next is the .NET Framework SDK setup welcome page. Click the Next button.

Need to agree to the EULA. Select the I agree radio button and click the Next button.

In the .NET Framework SDK install options page, we select all. The documentation was selected by
default. Click the Next button.

We accept the default folder and path. If you want to change the path and folder, click the Browse
button, else click the Next button.

When the SDK components installation is complete, we will see the following dialog box.

Next we have been asked whether to install the Visual J# .NET 1.1 Redistributable Package. Just say
Yes.

The following Figure confirmed that all the pre-requisite has been installed successfully and it ready
for the BDS 2006 installation. Click the Next button.

Accept the License Agreement by selecting the first radio button and click the Next button.

The username and the organization detail have been filled for us extracted from the current machine.
If we want to change, we can change here else click the Next button.

The next Figure shows what is called personalities. You can customize what personalities that you
want to install. Keep in mind that you can re-install those personalities later. In our case we will
select all the personalities and then click the Next button.

The following Figure shows the setup customization for the personalities’ sub-components. We can
customize what we want to install and the required space also can be known. Click the Space button.

The total required space, 1.3 GB is shown in the following Figure. In this case we choose all the
default installation. Then click the Next button.

The following Figure shows the destination folder installation customization. Change as needed but
some system files’ path cannot be changed. In our case we just accept the default path and folder.
Click the Next button.

Depending on your target platform development and Office version, select one of the Microsoft
Office Controls to be used. We choose Office XP for Borland Delphi for Microsoft Win32, so the
first radio button has been selected. Click the Next button.

Choose the Indy version for Win32 Control. We choose the latest version, Indy 10. Click the Next
button.

The next Figure shows the additional components that can be installed. We choose all the additional
components. If you don’t have intention to use those components, then no need to select them and
you can re-install those components later when needed. Click the Next button.

The next Figure shows the information for the previously selected additional components. Browse
and read it else click the OK button.

The next Figure shows the file associations’ update. Here if we can associate those file extensions
for the Borland and its components applications. Customize if you want to re-associate those file
extension to Borland applications.

We choose not to associate all the Borland and its component with new file extensions, so we unselect all the tick boxes. Click the Next button.

The Installation Wizard is ready to install. If you missing something then you can go back by
clicking the Back button else click the Install button.

The BDS 2006 installation begins. You can cancel the installation anytime by clicking the Cancel
button.

Insert the second disk when requested and click the OK button.

If there are corrupted file(s) from the installation disk, you will be prompted by the following Dialog
box. In this case you have three choices: Abort the installation, retry reading the file or ignore the
file and proceed reading next files. If the file is not critical such as Help file you can ignore it else
you have to abort the installation and try finding new BDS 2006 disk.

Insert the next disk, disk three as requested and click the OK button.

The following is a confirmation prompt for the machine config file modification to enable the

The next stage is CalibreRM SDK installation. Click the Next button.

Select the first radio button to agree to the License Agreement else the installation will be
terminated. Then click the Next button.

Review the customer information page. User name and organization are automatically filled based
on the current machine settings. We can customize the installation for a specific user or for all users
on the current machine. We choose for all users of the current machine so anyone who log in to this
machine, he/she can use CalibreRM. Click the Next button.

We can select whether a complete or custom setup type. In this case we select a complete setup type
by choosing the first radio button and click the Next button.

Next we are prompted to setup Wise Owl Demeanor for .NET. Click the Next button.

Accept the License Agreement by choosing the I Agree radio button and click the Next button.

The next setup page is to select the installation folder and user that can use this application. We can
change the default installation path by browsing the desired path and see the estimate disk space for
the installation. We can also set this application for everyone or just for the current logged in user.
In this case we use the default installation folder and set the application for everyone who login to
the current machine. Click the Next button.

Then we are prompted with the installation confirmation page. If we need to change any previously
selected settings, we can click the Back button else click the Next button.

We can edit the start menu folder or accept the default. In our case we accept the given start menu
folder. Click the Next button.

For additional task, we can ask the installation to create desktop and quick launch icons. We just
select the desktop icon. Click the Next button.

The setup wizard is ready to install and a summary of the chosen settings is displayed. If we want to
change the settings, click the Back button else click the Install button.

Next, let launch BDS 2006. Click Start → All Programs → Borland Developer Studio 2006 start up
menu (Windows XP Pro SP 2). We can launch individual BDS 2006 component or BDS 2006 itself.
In this case we launch BDS 2006 so select Borland Developer Studio 2006 menu.
