Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data
Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data provides a single touch solution that automates deployment of Big
Data infrastructure and provides a single management pane across both physical infrastructure and Hadoop
software. It supports key Hadoop distributions including Cloudera, MapR, and Hortonworks.
Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data delivers end-to-end automation of Hadoop cluster deployment that
allows you to spin up and expand clusters on-demand. Configuration of the physical infrastructure, which
includes compute, internal storage, network, and installation of operating system, Java packages, Hadoop
along with provisioning of Hadoop services are handled automatically with minimal user input. This is achieved
through the innovative Cisco UCS service profiles wherein both the physical infrastructure and Hadoop
configuration are incorporated into a Hadoop cluster deployment profile.
Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure for Big Data
Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure for Big Data is an industry leading architecture designed to meet a variety
of Big Data workloads. It scales as processing and storage needs grow without increasing management
challenges and delivers predictable performance along with reduced total cost of ownership (TCO).
Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure is comprised of the following components:
• Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects
• Cisco UCS 2200 Series Fabric Extenders
• Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers

1.1 VM for Upgrade
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
In your hypervisor, take a snapshot of the VM before you begin the upgrade.
Log in to your Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data, Release 1.1 appliance, using ShellAdmin.
In the Shell Admin, stop all services as follows:
a) Choose Stop services to stop all services.
b) Choose Display services status to verify that all services are stopped.
Step 4
If your current version of Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data is not supported for upgrade, you must upgrade to
Release 5.3.0.0, 5.3.0.1, 5.3.0.2, 5.3.1.0, 5.3.1.0, 5.3.1.2, or 5.3.2.0.
For information about how to upgrade from previous releases of Cisco UCS Director Express for Big Data, see the
installation and upgrade guide for that release.
Step 5
Step 6
In the Shell Admin, choose Manage Root Access and enable root access.
If you want to use the same IP address for the Release 2.0 VM, reconfigure the Release 1.1 VM with a temporary IP
address.
Note
The temporary IP address must be in the same subnet and reachable from the Release 2.0 VM to which you are
assigning the original IP address. If the new VM cannot reach the old VM, the migration script will fail.
If Release 5.3.x.x VM cannot communicate to Release 5.4, perform an offline migration. See Upgrading Cisco UCS
Director to Release 5.4 Offline
