Note The add-in is made available as a zipped file that has to be imported into the virtual machine manager to install it. Open an instance of the Virtual Machine Manager console. In the Navigation pane, click Settings. In the toolbar, click Import Console Add-in. The Import Console Add-in wizard appears. Click Browse and navigate to the location where the zipped file is saved. Select the zip file and click Open. Click Next. Click Finish. The add-in is installed and a new icon called Cisco UCS Manager appears in the toolbar. For example, you can create groups based on locations and add UCS domains in various locations to their respective groups. Similarly, you can create groups based on any criteria of your choice and add the relevant domains matching the criteria. This helps in organizing domains under logical groups. Perform the following steps to add a group under the UCS domain: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. Right-click on UCS Domains. Click Add Group. The Add Group dialog box appears. Step 4 Step 5 Enter the group name in the Group Name field. Click OK. The group with the chosen name appears under the UCS Domains node. Note • You can add sub-groups within a group. To add a sub-group, right-click on the group within which you want to add a sub-group and follow steps 3 through 5 in the preceding procedure. You can add up to four levels of sub-groups within a group. • You can rename a group by right-clicking on the group and choosing Rename UCS Group. • You can add UCS domains within the groups. In the UCS Domains node, right-click on the UCS group that you want to delete. Click Remove UCS Group. If the group does not have sub-groups or any UCS domains the group is deleted. Otherwise an appropriate warning message appears indicating that deletion of the group will also delete the sub-groups and unregister any UCS domains within it. Step 4 Click OK. The UCS domains within the groups chosen for deletion are disconnected are unregistered. And the chosen UCS group and the sub-groups within it are deleted. Depending on the privileges available to the user with which UCS domain is registered, some or all actions may be disabled. Perform the following steps to register a UCS domain: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. Right-click on UCS Domains. Click Add UCS Domain. The Add UCS Domain dialog box appears. Step 4 Enter the following details in the dialog box: Field Description Hostname/IP IP address or host name of the UCS domain that you want to register. Username Username of the UCS domain. Password Password of the UCS domain. Port Port number of the UCS domain server. Click Proxy Settings. Proxy Settings dialog box appears. In the Proxy Settings dialog box, click Use Custom Proxy Settings radio button and enter the following details: Note Step 5 Step 6 Field Description Address IP address or host name of the proxy server. Username (Optional) Username of the proxy server. Password (Optional) Password of the proxy server. Port Port number of the proxy server. If required, you can edit the proxy settings at a later time. Click OK. The registered UCS domain appears under the UCS domains node. Upon adding a UCS domain, the hypervisor hosts running on the newly added UCS domain appear under the Hypervisor Hosts node. Note Step 7 Note You also can add UCS domains within groups. If you want to add a UCS domain within a group, right-click on the group and follow steps 3 through step 7 in the preceding procedure. Removing a UCS Domain Perform the following steps to remove a UCS domain: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, right-click the UCS domain that you want to delete. Click Remove UCS Domain. Click Yes in the delete confirmation dialog box. The selected UCS domain is disconnected and unregistered. If a service profile is associated with the server, a link to the location of the service profile is provided. Clicking on the link displays the properties of the associated service profile. Status Indicates the status of the tasks running on the host. Actions area Associate Service Profile Enables you to associate a service profile to the server. Disassociate Service Profile Enables you to disassociate a service profile from the server. Set Desired Power State Provides options to set the power state of a service profile. KVM Console Enables you to launch the KVM console. Turn on Locator LED Enables you to either turn on or turn off the locator LED depending on the current state. Firmware tab Provides the firmware details such as BIOS, CIMC, adaptors and storage device part IDs, and the firmware versions. If there are any changes to the firmware details on the server, those changes will reflect here. Faults tab Displays the faults' details specific to the server, such as properties, severity, fault codes and IDs, description, affected objects, and so on. Provides options to filter the faults based on severity, and option under the Actions area to acknowledge the fault on UCS. Click UCS Domains. The list of registered UCS domains and consolidated UCS information for each domain, such as the name and version, number of associated hosts, VMs and servers appear on the right pane of the window. (Optional) You can view the details in the grid view or the card view by clicking View option on the right-top corner and choosing the appropriate option. Viewing the UCS Blade Server Details Using the add-in you can view the server details, such as properties, faults information, and firmware details. The following procedure provides steps to view server details: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. Under the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Equipment > Chassis. A list of chassis appears. Step 4 Choose a chassis. The list of blade servers on the chassis appears under the chassis on the left pane. You can also view the list of blade servers on the right pane on the window. Step 5 Select the blade for which you want to view the details. The properties of the blade appear on the right pane of the window. You can view the following server information: Name Description General tab: Fault summary Displays the number of faults categorized based on fault severity. Following are the actions that you can perform: Disassociating a Service Profile The following procedure describes how to disassociate a service profile from a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the Hypervisor node, select the server for which you want to disassociate a service profile. The hypervisor host details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 3 Step 4 In the Actions area, click Disassociate Service Profile. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box. Setting the Power State The following procedure describes how to set the power state of a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the Hypervisor node, select the server for which you want to set the power state. The hypervisor host details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 In the Actions area, click Set Desired Power State. In the Set Power State dialog box, select Up or Down. Click OK. Depending on your choice the power state of the server is set. Launching the KVM Console The following procedure describes how to launch a KVM Console of a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the Hypervisor node, select the server for which you want to launch a KVM console. The hypervisor host details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 3 In the Actions area, click Launch KVM Console. This launches the KVM console. Turning on the LED Locator The following procedure describes how to turn on an LED locator of a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the Hypervisor node, select the server for which you want to change the locator LED state. Cisco UCS Manager Add-in User Guide, Release 1.x - For Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 18 Performing Actions Using the Add-in Performing Actions From the UCS Server View The hypervisor host details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 3 In the Actions area, click Turn on Locator LED. Successfully issued the turn on locator LED command message appears. There may be a delay in SCVMM receiving the notification of the LED's new state. Step 4 Click OK. The LED state is changed. Note If the locator LED state is ON, and if you want to turn it off, you can follow the same steps in the preceding procedure to turn it off. Performing Actions From the UCS Server View You can perform a set of actions on the UCS blade and rack server using the add-in. Following are the actions that you can perform: Associating a Service Profile The following procedure describes how to associate a service profile to a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Equipment > Rack-Mounts. For blade servers: • Expand Equipment > Chassis. The list of chassis appears under Chassis. • Choose a chassis. The list of blade servers on the chassis appears under the chassis on the left pane. You can also view the list of blade servers on the right pane on the window. • Choose the blade for which you want to associate a service profile. The blade server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 4 Select the rack server for which you want to associate a service profile. The server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 In the Actions area, click Associate Service Profile. Associate Service Profile window appears. Step 6 In the service profiles, select Available Service Profiles or All Service Profile. Step 7 Step 8 Select the service profile that you want to associate. Click OK. The selected service profile is associated with the server. Disassociating a Service Profile The following procedure describes how to disassociate a service profile from a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Equipment > Rack-Mounts. For blade servers: • Expand Equipment > Chassis. The list of chassis appears under Chassis. • Choose a chassis. The list of blade servers on the chassis appears under the chassis on the left pane. You can also view the list of blade servers on the right pane on the window. • Choose the blade for which you want to associate a service profile. The blade server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 4 Select the rack server from which you want to disassociate a service profile. The server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 Step 6 In the Actions area, click Disassociate Service Profile. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box. Service profile is disassociated from the server. Setting the Power State The following procedure describes how to set the power state of a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. The blade server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 4 Select the rack server for which you want to set the power state. The server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 In the Actions area, click Set Desired Power State. In the Set Power State dialog box, select Up or Down. Click OK. Depending on your choice the power state of the server is set. Launching the KVM Console The following procedure describes how to launch a KVM Console of a server: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Equipment > Rack-Mounts. For blade servers: • Expand Equipment > Chassis. The list of chassis appears under Chassis. • Choose a chassis. Turning On or Off of the LED Locator The following procedure describes how to turn on or off of a server LED locator: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Equipment > Rack-Mounts. For blade servers: • Expand Equipment > Chassis. The list of chassis appears under Chassis. • Choose a chassis. The list of blade servers on the chassis appears under the chassis on the left pane. You can also view the list of blade servers on the right pane on the window. • Choose the blade for which you want to associate a service profile. The blade server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 4 Select the rack server for which you want to change the state of the locator LED. The server details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 In the Actions area, click Turn on Locator LED. Successfully issued the turn off locator LED command message appears. There may be a delay in SCVMM receiving the notification of the LED's new state. The Turn on Locator LED is a toggle button, depending on the current state you can use it change the LED locator state to on or off. Click OK. The LED state is changed. Note Step 6 Note If the locator LED state is ON, and if you want to turn it off, you can follow the same steps in the preceding procedure to turn it off. Performing Actions From the Service Profile View You can perform a set of actions from the service profile view. Step 6 Enter the name and click OK. The selected service profile is renamed. Creating a Clone of a Service Profile The following procedure describes how to clone a service profile: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Orgs > root. In the Actions area, click Create a Clone. The Clone Service Profile dialog box appears. Step 5 Step 6 Enter the name of the clone and destination of the org in the respective fields. Click OK. The clone of a service profile is created at the specified org destination. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Orgs > root. Select the service profile that you want to disassociate from the server. The service profile details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 Step 6 In the Actions area, click Disassociate Service Profile. Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box. Service profile is disassociated from the server. Changing Service Profile Association with the Host Firmware Package The following procedure describes how to change the service profile association from an existing server to another: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Orgs > root. Select the service profile that you want to associate with a host firmware package. The service profile details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 In the Actions area, click Change Host Firmware Package. Change Host Firmware Package Association dialog box appears. Select the host firmware package that you want to change to from the Select Package drop-down list. Click Apply. If server reboot is required, a confirmation dialog box appears. Click Yes at the prompt. Changes the service profile association to the chosen host firmware package. Associating a Service Profile to a Server or a Server Pool The following procedure describes how to change the service profile association from an existing server to another: Procedure Step 1 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Orgs > root. Select the service profile that you want to associate with a server or a server pool. The service profile details appear on the right pane of the window. Step 5 In the Actions area, click Change Service Profile Association. Associate Service Profile dialog box appears. To associate the service profile to a server: Step 6 • Select Available Servers or All Servers . • Select a server from the list and click OK. Step 7 Service profile is gets associated with the chosen server. To associate a service profile to a server pool: • Select Select from a pool from the Server Assignment drop-down list. • Select the server pool to which you want to associate the profile, from the Server Pool drop-down list • Select a server pool qualification, from the Server Pool Qualification drop-down list. Service profile is gets associated with the chosen server pool. Performing Actions From the Service Profile Template View You can perform a set of actions from the service profile template view. Service profile template is created under the specified org destination. The clone of the service profile is created at the specified org destination. On the UCS Domain node, expand the UCS domains node and any sub-groups to reach the required UCS domain. Select the UCS domain for which you want to launch the user interface, right-click and click Launch UCS Manager GUI. You need to enter your login credentials if the registered UCS is running on firmware version 2.1 or lower. UCS Manager user interface for the domain launches. Uploading Firmware Packages Perform the following steps to upload a firmware package: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Select Equipment. On the Firmware Upload Tasks tab, click Upload Firmware. Upload Firmware dialog box appears. Click Browse and browse to the location where the firmware package is. Select the package, click Open and then click OK. Click OK on the confirmation dialog box. Uploads the firmware package and the uploaded package appears on the Firmware Packages tab. (Optional) To delete a firmware package, select the firmware package and click Delete. (Optional) Click OK in the confirmation dialog box. Upgrading Host Firmware Each server is indirectly associated with host firmware package through a service profile. Modifying Blade package and Rack package version upgrades the firmware on associated service profiles. UCS firmware remains unchanged. Note Upgrading the firmware of the default host firmware package will update the firmware on servers that are not associated with service profiles. Cisco UCS Manager Add-in User Guide, Release 1.x - For Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 28 Performing Actions Using the Add-in Pending Activities The following procedure provides steps to upgrade the firmware on servers by modifying the firmware versions of the associated host firmware packages. Procedure Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the UCS Domains node, expand the UCS domain. Expand Orgs, and then root. Expand Host Firmware Packages and select the host firmware package which is associated with the service profile of the server for which you want to upgrade the firmware. Note • You can view the currently associated host firmware package by clicking on the Change Host Firmware Package action. This displays the existing packages. • If you want to upgrade the firmware on server that does not have an associated service profile, select the default host firmware package. Choosing this option will upgrade the firmware on all the servers that are not associated with service profiles. You can view the host firmware package information on the right pane of the window. Click Modify Package Versions. Modify Package Versions dialog box appears. Step 6 For the B-Series and C-Series servers, select the firmware versions to which you want to upgrade from the respective Blade Package and Rack Package drop down lists. In the Host Firmware Package Dependencies area, lists all the associated service profiles. Step 7 Click Next. Summary of the impacted endpoints appear. Step 8 (Optional) Use the available filter option to view specific impacts. Step 9 Click Next. Impacted virtual machines and their status appear. Step 10 If a Virtual Machine is running on any impacted server, the process will stop with a warning. To avoid this warning and continue with the update, check the Upgrade even with running VMs. Step 11 Click Update. Initiates the upgrade process on UCS. Step 5 Pending Activities Perform the following steps to view or acknowledge pending activities. Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the Cisco UCS Manager node, right-click a UCS domain and select Pending Activities to view the window where all the pending activities are displayed. All the actions which require acknowledgment are displayed in the User Acknowledged Activities tab. The Scheduled Activities tab displays all the scheduled actions. Note Reboot Now action can be performed by UCS domain user with admin privileges only. Note User Acknowledged Activities and Scheduled Activities tabs have an Acknowledge All option so you can acknowledge all the pending activities in a single action. The following procedure includes steps to set the parameters: Procedure Step 1 Step 2 On the toolbar, click Cisco UCS Manager. In the navigation pane, click Add-in Settings. The Settings dialog box appears. Step 3 In the Refresh Timer Interval (>=1) field, enter the refresh time interval you want to set. The time interval range is 1 to 1440 minutes. The default is 5 minutes. This time interval controls how often the information on the selected view in the add-in is refreshed. Step 4 Select an option for which you want to save the log files from the Logging Mode drop-down list. The default value is INFO. Step 5 In the Log File Size (1-100) field, enter a number to set the size of the error log. The default value is 10 MB. This is the size of the log file. If the log exceeds the set file size, a new file is created with a suffix that starts with one and increments by one for the subsequent files. Step 6 Log File Path indicates the path where the log files are saved. The log file parameters are set and the log will be saved at a location indicated in the Log File Path. Step 7 (Optional) Click Reset To Defaults if you want to reset the values to defaults, and click Apply to commit these changes. In the Proxy Settings area, follow these steps: Note Step 8 • To use the system proxy settings, click Use System Proxy Settings radio button and click Apply. • To specify proxy settings applicable to all registered UCS Domains within the add-in, click Use Add-in Proxy Settings radio button and enter the following details: Step 9 Field Description Address IP address or host name of the proxy server. Username Username of the proxy server. Password Password of the proxy server. Port Port number of the proxy server. Click Apply. Troubleshooting and Common Errors Troubleshooting The log file parameters are set using the settings option available with the add-in and the log file is saved at a location indicated in the Log File Path. For any issues in the add-in, contact Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) with the archived log files. Common Errors and Resolutions If you encounter any issues while installing the add-in indicating missing dll files, you can resolve these issues by ensuring you have read and write permissions for the ..\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\Virtual Machine Manager\bin\AddInPipeline folder (folder that runs the VMM Console) on your machine.
