About the Cisco UCS Invicta SAN Storage Devices
Cisco UCS Director can manage external Cisco UCS Invicta Appliance and Cisco UCS Invicta Scaling System
multilevel cell (MLC) flash arrays in both the 1U and 2U form factors and scale from 1.5TB to 72TB.
Orchestration Tasks for Storage Device Management
Cisco UCS Director includes orchestration features that allow you to automate configuration and management
of storage domain tasks in one or more workflows.
A complete list of the storage device orchestration tasks is available in the Workflow Designer, and in the
Task Library.
For more information about orchestration in Cisco UCS Director, see the Cisco UCS Director Orchestration
Guide.
Prerequisites
To successfully create a Cisco UCS Director account and configure and monitor a Cisco UCS Invicta storage
device, you need Cisco UCS Director, Release 4.1 or later releases.

Supported Devices
Cisco UCS Director provides support for the following devices:
• Cisco UCS Invicta C3124SA Appliance (API versions 1.5 and 1.6)
• Cisco UCS Invicta Scaling System (API versions 1.5 and 1.6)
Invicta Upgrade Information
If you are upgrading Invicta from a release prior to Release 5.0, you must do the following:
• Delete your existing Invicta account AFTER the appliance has been upgraded
• Add a new Invicta account
• Delete all existing workflows
• Create new workflows

Before You Begin
A Cisco UCS Invicta solid-state drive (SSD) device (either a Cisco UCS Invicta Appliance or Cisco UCS
Invicta Scaling System model) connected to a Cisco Unified Computing System (Cisco UCS) server.

On the menu bar, choose Administration > Physical Accounts.
Click the Physical Accounts tab.
Click Add.
In the Add Account dialog box, complete the following fields:
Name
Description
Pod drop-down list
Choose the pod to which this account belongs.
Category drop-down list
Choose the type of category: Storage.
Account Type drop-down list
Choose the type of account: UCS Invicta.
Account Sub Type drop-down list
Choose the account sub type. For example, a Cisco UCS
Invicta account has two options available:
• UCS Invicta Appliance
• UCS Invicta Scaling System
Account Name field
A unique name that you assign to this account.

Description
Server Address field
The IP address of the Cisco UCS Invicta Appliance.
Note
Only valid for Cisco UCS Invicta Appliance
accounts.
User ID field
The administrator username that this account will use.
Password field
The password associated with the username.
SSRA IP Address field
The first Silicon Stage Router (SSR) IP address.
Note
This IP address is applicable only to Cisco UCS
Invicta Scaling System accounts.
SSRB IP Address field
The second SSR IP address.
Note
This IP address is applicable only to Cisco UCS
Invicta Scaling System accounts.
Transport Type drop-down list
Choose the transport type that you want to use for this
account. This can be one of the following:
• http
• https
Port field
The port number (based upon the transport type).
Description field
(Optional) A description of this account.
Contact Email field
The email address that you can use to contact the
administrator or other person responsible for this account.
Location field
The location of the device associated with the account.
Service Provider field
(Optional) The name of the service provider associated
with this account, if any.

Click Add.
Cisco UCS Director tests the connection to the Cisco UCS Invicta device. If that test is successful, it adds the Cisco UCS
Invicta account and discovers all infrastructure elements that are associated with that account, including SSRs, Silicon
Storage Nodes (SSNs), volume groups, Logical Unit Numbers (LUNs), and initiator groups. This discovery process and
inventory collection cycle can take approximately five minutes to complete.

Click Test Connection.
In the Test Connectivity dialog box, determine whether the connection is successful and then click Close.

On the menu bar, click Converged.
Click the pod where you created the Cisco UCS Invicta account.
The Converged view displays Storage, Network, Compute and Virtual rows.

Verify that your new Cisco UCS Invicta account is present in the Storage row (blue).
Double-click the Cisco UCS Invicta device.
The Summary pane displays system and SSN status.

This report displays the health of your RAID drives, including the RAID name, the associated SSN name,
and the current status (health) of the RAID configuration.
Note
The RAID configuration of the drive is predefined at the factory. You cannot change the RAID
configuration.

Bonds
Each bond is configured with a unique IP address and a routing algorithm. Depending upon your environment
and storage needs, you can create either or both virtual interfaces and VLANs on a bond.
Creating a Bond

Create a Cisco UCS Invicta account.

The Ethernet maximum transmission unit (MTU) value. A
higher value allows more data to be transferred. The default
value is 1500.

Use a value of 9000 if jumbo frames are required
for assignment to the bond.
Modedrop-down list
Choose a routing (algorithm) mode.
• Round Robin
• Active Backup
• LACP
• ALB
On Boot check box

On the Bonds tab, choose the newly created bonded interface.
Click Enslave.

The interface is now added to the bond. Once the bonded interface is created, you can add a virtual interface and/or

You can communicate with either virtual interfaces or VLANs on a bond.
Note
A separate tab exists for creating VLANs. Both virtual interfaces and VLANs can be created on top of a

In the Create VLAN dialog box, complete the following fields:

Bond Name drop-down list
Choose a Bond name.
VLAN ID field
Enter a unique VLAN ID. Valid selection is between 1 and
4096.
IP Address field
IP address of VLAN.
Mask field
Enter a mask address.
MTU field

The iSCSI settings let you define the IP addresses used for communicating with the LAN mounting. You can
configure IP addresses as either Allowed or Available.

a) In the Volume Group Name field, enter a unique name for the volume group.

An SSN from a table of available SSNs.
b) In the SSN(s) field, click the Select button.
c) In the Select dialog box, check the check box for the SSN that you want to assign to the volume group and click
Select.

A unique name for the LUN.
LUN Size (GB) field
The size of the LUN in GB.
Volume Group drop-down list
Choose a volume group to associate with the LUN.
Device Group drop-down list
Choose the device group to associate with the LUN.

a) In the Initiator Group Name field, click Select.

Click the Initiator Groups tab.
Click the row for the initiator group that you want to delete.
Click Delete.
In the Delete Initiator Group dialog box, do the following:
a) If desired, check the Force check box.
b) Click Submit.

The topology view displays the association between the LUN and the data store.

In the Storage row, double-click the Cisco UCS Invicta device.
Click the LUNs tab.
Choose a LUN to view.
Click Topology.
The Topology window displays the association between the LUN and the data store and the host on which it is mounted.

In the Topology View window, choose one of the following from the View Mode drop-down list:
• Hierarchical—Displays elements in hierarchical mode. Check the Allow Item Spacing check box to insert space
between the elements.
• Concentric—Displays elements in a concentric mode. Increase or decrease the distance between elements using
the slider.
• Circular—Displays elements in a circular mode. Increase or decrease the radius with the slider.
• Force Directed—Adjust rigidity and force distance values using the sliders.

When you are finished, click Close.

Examining the Stack View
With the stack view, you can examine the following details for a virtual machine (VM):
• Operating system
• Virtual machine information
• Hypervisor
• Infrastructure
The stack view is graphically divided into three columns:
• Compute (green)
• Storage (blue)
• Network (pink)
