RESEARCH
My research focuses on writing processes, particularly how writing is physically
enacted. I investigate writing environments and technoglogies, the role of
affect and ritual in writing processes, neuroscientific conceptions of reading and
writing, theories of embodiment and distributed cognition, as well as
voice-to-text technologies. I’m currently working on a book project that that
observes and theorizes the material embodied nature of composing processes in
the 21st century.

DOCTORAL
DISSERTATION
Composing Assemblages: Toward a Theory of Material Embodied Process
Committee: Laura Micciche (Chair), Russel Durst, Jim Ridolfo
Charles Phelps Taft Dissertation Fellow, 2012-2013
My dissertation updates the pedagogical and research concept of "the writing
process" by emphasizing writing’s physicality. Through multimodal case studies of
several graduate student writers, my research considers how space, objects,
rituals, and bodily movements participate in writing’s development.
