The Middle East is constantly at the center of world attention. Its geo-political
significance, the regional conflicts which affect global stability and the hopes and
fears emanating from the “Arab Spring” all contribute to a widespread interest in the
future of this area.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
DOME provides an interdisciplinary
approach to this exciting field,
combining academic courses,
language studies and field trips.
Students initially take a four-week,
intensive Modern Hebrew language
course (Winter Ulpan) prior to the
opening of the spring semester
(5 CREDITS).
Courses during the semester
are offered in the areas of
political science, international
relations, history, sociology,
religious studies and languages
(MINIMUM OF 15 CREDITS).
The semester program
includes:
• One core course in Middle Eastern
studies (3 CREDITS)
• Language instruction in either
Modern Hebrew or Modern
Standard Arabic (6 CREDITS)
• Electives in Middle Eastern
studies, including Colloquial
Arabic (6 CREDITS)
• The option to conduct a supervised
independent study on a relevant
topic, subject to approval
Co-curricular Activities
Students benefit from a series of
excursions and lectures that may
include:
• A visit to the Givat Haviva Center,
focusing on Jewish-Arab dialogue
and reconciliation
• A visit to the Israel Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, to meet with
Israeli diplomats
• A lecture by a senior researcher
at the Harry S. Truman Research
Institute for the Advancement of
Peace

Admission Requirements
Students at an accredited university
or college who have completed at
least 28 credits with a grade-point
average of 3.0 and above (or the
equivalent) are eligible to apply.
