STUDY ABROAD IN JERUSALEM
Arabic Immersion Program
ArtJerusalem
This program focuses on Modern Standard Arabic—the formal language employed in books,
newspapers, news broadcasts and formal speeches across the Arab world—as well as the spoken
Levantine dialect. In addition to intensive classroom study, students participate in clubs, tours
and special activities designed to promote interaction with native Arabic speakers, society and
culture. RIS offers Beginner, Intermediate, and
Advanced levels based on the Al-kitaab textbook
series.

The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design is Israel’s most renowned art school. ArtJerusalem,
a joint initiative of Bezalel and the RIS, combines
artistic training at both the basic and advanced
levels, with university study and first-hand exposure to Israeli society. Areas of study include:
Architecture, Ceramics and Glass Design, Fine
Arts, Industrial Design, Jewlery and Fashion,
Photography, Screen Based Arts or Visual Communications.

Dynamics of the Middle East (DOME)
The Middle East is constantly at the center of
world attention. DOME provides an interdisciplinary approach to this exciting field with courses
in society, culture and politics of the Middle East.
Following the Winter Ulpan, students take a core
course in Middle Eastern studies and a thematic,
interdisciplinary seminar culminating in a two-day
field trip/retreat. Students choose additional
courses from among the various options offered
at RIS.

Quantitative Biology
The Hebrew University International Program in
Quantitative Biology offers a unique set of integrated courses and hands-on laboratory experience in this rapidly growing field. Students
choose courses from the following subfields: Molecular Neuroscience, Bioengineering, and Systems Biology.

Undergraduate Study Abroad Program
The Undergraduate Study Abroad Program provides a unique academic experience that extends
well beyond the limits of the classroom. Students
are exposed to Israel’s history, as well as its vibrant culture and diverse society, through field
trips, special activities and interaction with local
Israelis. The program begins with an intensive
Hebrew language course (Ulpan) and continues
with one or two semesters of Hebrew language
instruction and courses from the following areas:
Middle Eastern Studies, Israel History and Politics, Hebrew and Arabic Languages, Bible Archaeology and the Ancient Near East, Jewish History,
Civilization and Education, Journalism and Media
Studies, Brain and Behavioral Sciences, Business.

Spring in Jerusalem Honors Program
Outstanding 3rd- and 4th-year students looking
for a unique intellectual challenge are invited to
apply for the Spring in Jerusalem Honors Program. Following Ulpan, participants study in classes together with Israeli students in various departments of the University and take one of the
research seminars offered at RIS. The program
also includes a speaker series with researchers
from the Hebrew University as well as an excursion on a contemporary theme.

DanceJerusalem
DanceJerusalem combines artistic training in
dance at the world famous Jerusalem Academy
of Music and Dance (JAMD), with academic
study at RIS and exposure to Israel’s rich culture
and diverse society. The program offers university-level training in the disciplines of Classical
Ballet, Contemporary Dance (including Ohad
Naharin’s Gaga), Choreography, Repertoire and
Improvisation, together with Israeli dancers. An
audition is required for admission.

Jerusalem Sounds
This program is designed for music majors or
minors who want to combine academic study at
RIS with musical training at Israel’s most prominent music academy, The Jerusalem Academy of
Music and Dance (JAMD). After the presemester Hebrew Ulpan, students begin their
program, which includes the core courses
“Music in Israel,” private lessons, and participation in musical ensembles with Israeli peers. An
audition is required for admission.

Academic Internship
Internships provide a unique opportunity to
experience and interact with Israeli society
firsthand. Placements are available in a variety
of areas including health services, the media
social research, government, business and
more. (1 credit) In lieu of a class, qualified students may conduct an Independent Study project under the supervision of a Hebrew University faculty member. (3 credits)
