Why is Kirk Douglas smiling? Because he knows you’ll be there to watch him
pose a serious (if ultimately unsuccessful) challenge to Romans of the late Republic in Stanley Kubrick’s
Spartacus. This course examines 20th and 21st c. film and television interpretations of ancient texts, with
a particular emphasis on portrayals of the Roman Emperors in imperial historians and biographers. The
course satisfies a humanities elective credit and offers course credit toward the history or classics major
(pre-modern Europe). For more information: [email protected]
