June 2015

June 29, 2015
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
There are great things happening on the Pleasantville Campus. Below is an update on the Pleasantville
Project. The Pleasantville Project is a collaborative initiative designed to increase the quality and attractive
power of the Pleasantville Campus. The overarching goal of the project is to increase enrollment and
retention in Pleasantville, ensuring that the major investments the University is making in the campus yield
desired results. I’d like to share with you exciting progress that is being made toward that goal.
Promising new academic programs are scheduled to launch in the fall 2015 semester. Dyson College of
Arts and Sciences is launching the MA in Environmental Policy and the College of Health Professions is
launching the BS in Health Sciences. There is significant interest and enthusiasm around these programs
and we expect they will attract more students to the Pleasantville campus. Additional new program
offerings across all of the schools will be announced over the next few academic years.
Dr. Susan Dinan has been selected to serve as the Founding Dean of the Pforzheimer Honors College
beginning August 3, 2015. Dr. Dinan earned her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and her
Doctorate in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has served as the Director of the
Honors College at William Paterson University in New Jersey since 2005. As Dean of the Pforzheimer
Honors College, Dr. Dinan will spearhead the articulation, development and implementation of a
comprehensive vision that positions the Honors College as a first choice destination for high-achieving high
school students. Dr. Dinan will have an office on the second floor of Kessel.
Student Affairs along with the First Year Interest Group (FIG) Advisory Board has selected Dr. Robert
Mundy as the first faculty in residence for Alumni Hall. Dr. Mundy has been with Pace for two years and
is serving as an Assistant Professor in English. He is looking forward to working closely with students and
working on student research projects. He will also work closely with our Faculty Partners in running our
FIG program for all first year students.
The 2015 - 2018 strategic plan for the Athletics department has been completed with specific goals and
measures.
The Pleasantville Campaign has raised $3.6 million including the recent $2 million naming gift from Mr.
Joseph Ianniello ’90, the Chief Operating Officer at CBS Corporation, and a recent addition to the Board
of Trustees. Additionally, the Campaign has recently received an anonymous gift of $250,000, a $25,000
gift from a Pace parent to name a field house locker room, and a new donation for Alumni Hall. The 2015
Westchester Homecoming events, including the Alumni Hall Ribbon cutting and the 3rd Annual Faces of
Pace dinner, will be held on October 17th. We look forward to the opportunity to tour Alumni Hall in the
coming months with prospects for the campaign, leading to the ribbon cutting event as part of Homecoming.
The first meeting of the Westchester President’s Council was held on June 3 rd in Pleasantville. The most
recent addition to the group is Peter Porrino ’80, a Pleasantville campus graduate, a former Gold Ribbon
committee member, and the EVP and CFO at XL Group in Stamford.
Pace’s partnership with Pleasantville’s Jacob Burns Film Center has grown substantially. Of note, our
Media, Communications and Visual Arts students screened their documentary film, Curacao’s Coral
Challenge, on May 12th at the Burns theater. This first-time event was attended by 140 students, faculty
and families. The film was followed by a Q&A moderated by Emmy award winning documentary film
maker Susan Todd. In addition, the Environmental Studies and Science Department welcomed the JBFC
staff for a tour of the new Environmental Center complex and a presentation on their growing department.
All came away excited to explore partnering on environmental film presentations and education initiatives
in the coming year.
This year’s Westchester reunion and alumni weekend events experienced a growth in attendance and
attracted an encouraging group of young alumni who expressed enthusiasm and interest in Pace. Held the
weekend of April 23rd to April 25th , events included the Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner held at the Willow
Ridge Country Club in Harrison and Reunion held for the first time at 42 The Restaurant in White Plains.
A Marketing Sub-Committee has been formed as a subset of the Pleasantville Project Committee to
develop a communications strategy that increases visibility and raises the reputation of Pace as a higher
education leader in Westchester. A website was created to provide detailed information on the Pleasantville
Project.
The Graduate Center at One Martine Avenue in White Plains is officially on the market for sale. All
programs are being relocated and a graduate classroom wing will be created in Miller Hall for the start of
the fall 2015 semester.
Construction activity continues to progress. Here is a status report:
