TRANSFER CREDIT GUIDE: MAJORS IN THE HUMANITIES, SOCIAL SCIENCES, and ARTS If you are a South Carolina technical college student who plans to transfer to the University’s College of Arts and Sciences, to pursue a liberal arts major, you should consider the following courses as you schedule your technical college classes. The courses listed below will transfer to degree programs within the College of Arts and Sciences. This list does not include every technical college course that is available for transfer to the University of South Carolina. You are not required to take all courses listed prior to transferring. Rather, it is a guide for you and your advisors.* You should be aware that courses must be passed with a grade of C or higher in order to be considered for transfer credit. Technical College Courses Arts and Sciences Course Requirements Writing Writing (6 hours) 1) ENG 101 and 102 1) ENGL 101 and 102 (6 hours) History History (9 hours) 1) HIS 101 or 102 1) HIST 101 or 102 2) HIS 201 or 202 2) HIST 111 or 112 3) HIS 108, 106, or 109 3) HIST 105, 106, or 109 Foreign Language 1) FRE 101, 102 (equivalent to FREN 109, 110) 2) GER 101, 102 (equivalent to GERM 109, 110) 3) SPA 101, 102 (equivalent to SPAN 109, 110) Mathematics/Analytical Reasoning Foreign Language Demonstration of proficiency in one foreign language equivalent to the minimal passing grade on the exit examination in the 122 course. Students transferring credit equivalent to USC 109 and 110 may enroll in USC 122 to complete the required sequence. Mathematics/Analytical Reasoning All students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts degree must take one of the following options. Students should consult the University Bulletin for specific requirements for specific majors. The bulletin is available at http://www.sc.edu/bulletin/ugrad/ Option I: 1. MAT 130 or 140 plus 2. One of the following: MAT 120, 122, 141, 240, 242 PHI 105, 106 CPT 101 or CPT 170 Option I: 1. MATH 122 or 141 plus 2. An additional course from Mathematics (at next higher level) Philosophy 110 or 111 Computer Science Statistics Option II: PHI 105, 106 MAT 120 (next higher level course must be taken at USC) CPT 101 or CPT 170 (next higher level course must be taken at USC) Option II: Two courses from one of the following fields: Philosophy 110, 111 Statistics Computer Science Bachelor of Science degree option: 1. MAT 140 or 130 2. MAT 141 or 122 3. MAT 120 4. One of the following: CPT 111, 112, 114, 132, 204, 211, 233, 244, or 264 The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree is an option for a limited number of majors in the social sciences. See the University Bulletin. For a B.S. degree, students must take a minimum of 12 hours, to include: 1. MATH 141 or 122, as specified by major department 2. MATH 142, 170, or 172, as specified by major department 3. STAT 201 (or equivalent) or higher, as specifed by major department 4. Any ENGL literature 200 or higher or a literature course taught in a foreign language (3 hours) 3. HIS 104, 105, 112, 115, 130, 131, 230, 235; ENG 238; REL 101, 102, 103; SPC 205, 208, 209, 210, 215. May include additional fine arts and literature courses. 3. Additional humanities courses (6 hours for B.A., 3 hours for B.S.) Social Sciences The following technical college courses will satisfy the social sciences requirements: ANT 101, 202, 203; CRJ 101, 115, 125, 130, 220, 242; ECO 201, 210, 211; GEO 101, 102; PSC 201, 205, 215, 220; PSY 201, 203, 204, 205, 208, 212, 214, 215, 220, 225, 240; SOC 101, 102, 151, 205, 206, 210, 220, 235 * Specific course limitations apply. See your advisor or consult the University Bulletin for specfics. Social Sciences (6-9 hours) Three courses from the social sciences are required for the B.A. degree. Two courses are required for the B.S. degree. * Specific course limitations apply.
