Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Operations
This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of mechanical
service and repair tasks within the marine industry. It is suitable for entry into the marine
mechanical service and repair sector.
Job roles or employment outcomes
The Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Operations is intended to prepare new employees or
recognise and develop existing workers in the marine mechanical service and repair industry.
The marine technician would be typically involved in tasks involving a specialised range of
methods, tools, materials and information, and be required to provide and pass on solutions to
predictable and unpredictable problems. Some complex and non-routine activities involving
individual responsibility and judgement in known contexts and within established parameters
may be expected.

This qualification is suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway.

Pathways into the qualification
This qualification may be accessed by direct entry. Credit may be granted towards this
qualification by those who have completed AUR2XX02 Certificate II in Marine Mechanical
Operations, or other relevant qualifications.
Pathways from the qualification
Further training pathways from this qualification include AUR4XX12 Certificate IV in Automotive
Technology or other relevant qualifications.

There are no specific licences that relate to this qualification. However, some units in this
qualification may have licensing or regulatory requirements, depending on the work context.

Packaging Rules
To achieve this qualification, competency must be demonstrated in 30 units of competency,
consisting of:
•
15 core units
plus
•
15 elective units, of which:
o all elective units may be chosen from the elective units listed below
o up to 5 may be drawn from a Certificate II qualification or above in this Training
Package, another endorsed Training Package or accredited course, provided that
the units chosen contribute to the vocational outcome of this qualification and do not
duplicate the outcome of another unit selected for this qualification.
