The BIAA Board met last week with representatives of the Carsales Group, led by David Campsell,
Director Lifestyle, Leisure and Industry, to discuss the concerns raised by members regarding the new
pricing structure for the Carsales Group boatsales and BoatPoint websites. The BIAA Board considered
the meeting to be very insightful in helping to understand the thinking behind and the detail of the new
product and pricing structure and welcomed the open and forthcoming response to the issues that had
been raised.
The BIAA Board welcomed the announcement that implementation of the new product and pricing
structure would be pushed back to 1 March 2014 to allow for further consultation with industry about
the changes and how subscribers to the sites should plan and prepare their future online advertising and
sales activity. Following further discussion after the meeting, the BIAA Board welcomed also a review of
the terms of the pricing structure to provide for a tiered structure and understands that the Carsales
Group will be communicating the detail of this welcome news to subscribers very shortly.
The BIAA Board considers the introduction of a tiered structure to be of clear benefit to the industry and
will provide for lesser advertising costs for an important segment of the market. The BIAA Board is
pleased that the Carsales Group has been able to respond to the concerns raised and appreciates that in
making changes to the pricing structure, the Carsales Group is seeking to work cooperatively with the
boating industry.
Discussion between BIAA and the Carsales Group will continue, with the objective of exploring
opportunities to support the boating industry and wider boating community. Further updates will be
made by BIAA and the Carsales Group in due course.
