Probability & Statistics for Engineers
2 credits
Prerequisite: 3450:222 Analytic Geometry-Calculus II or equivalent.
Course Description: Introduction to probability, statistics, random variables, data
descriptions, statistical inference, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, design of
experiments, and applications of statistics to engineering.
Course Topics:
Basic Concepts of Probability and Set Theory: set theory, probability spaces,
conditional probability and independence.
Introduction to Random Variables: probability densities, distribution functions, joint
distributions, mean, variance and correlation.
Introduction to Rand Processes: properties, moments, auto correlation and
covariance.
Data Description and Presentation: random sampling, sampling distributions, and
probability plotting.
Statistical Inference: confidence intervals and hypothesis testing, statistical process
control and control charts.
Statistical Applications in Engineering Design: data summary and presentation,
introduction to regression.
Introduction to Design of Experiments: one factor and two factor designs.
Statistical Case Studies in Engineering.
