Transforming global imaginaries: Alter-globalism in Higher Education Centre for Global Studies in Education Monday 9 March (5–6pm), Meeting Rooms A & B, Faculty of Education Alter-globalism is a movement that affirms global inter-dependence, cooperation and solidarity, while challenging the detrimental effects of global financial capitalism. This presentation examines shifting perceptions of the public role of (higher) education, with particular emphasis on questions of ethics, justice and internationalisation that arise at the inter-sections of current economic, cultural, political and social forces. Vanessa de Oliveira Andreotti, University of British Columbia, Vancouver Vanessa de Oliveira Andreotti is Canada Research Chair for Race, Inequalities and Global Change at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She was formerly a Professor of Global Education at the University of Oulu, in Finland, where she is still has an affiliation. Dr Andreotti’s research examines systemic patterns of reproduction of inequalities and how these limit or enable possibilities for collective existence and global change. Dr. Andreotti coordinates research projects related to ethics and education in the thematic areas of international development, global citizenship and internationalisation in Higher Education.
