New Facility For Students Vasavi college of Engineering strives to provide the facilities to students to make their learning process easier and to strengthen the curriculum. With such an intention we have purchased videos courses capturing the lectures 2delivered by the eminent professors across all the seven IITs spread throughout the India. NPTEL(National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning) was made available for student through intranet, it has also been included into the regular time table sessions to play the videos in seminar Hall. There are nearly 10 CSE subject video courses with the lecture noted are made available on intranet. Best Project Award Every year CSE department award prizes for the best projects, for this year following three projects were identified as best projects. The project work related to designing the college Alumni web site designed by two project team members (neha k , Shravan Goud Parepalli ,Tanuja Kareti) and ( J Manasa ,M.Meghana ,K.Bhanu Kishore) was identified as the first best project ,the web site was a contribution to college as the Alumini Website by the students. PAGE 2 CSE NEWS BULLETIN The project tilted ”Query Analyzer ” worked out by Bandi VenkataNaga Vijay, Sri Harsha Adapa, Muralidhar Bhattu was identified as the second best project. The project tilted “Resource Manager for Virtual Blade Servers in SLO Framework “ carried out by Shasikiran.V and Yugandhar.P was identified as the third best project. CSI (Computer Society Of India) One day workshop on “Mystery Box” was conducted on Jan 7th 2009 for students of 2/4, CSE conducted by CSI Student Chapter, VCE. One day work shop on ”Ethical Hacking” was conducted by Twinkling Society at VCE, on Mar 5th 2009 for the students of 2/4, CSE. Workshop Organized One day Workshop on “New Software development Methodologies and Agile” was conducted on Jan 6th 2009 by Suryanarayana from TCS for the students of BE 3/4 CSE A & B at VCE campus. Workshop on “E- Learning” was conducted during Jan 20th to 22nd ,2009 by the Expert Team from C-DAC for the faculty members from Technical Institutions at VCE campus. One day Workshop on “Soft Skills” was conducted by Mr Narahari setty Padmaja from IIIT,Hyd on Mar 16th 2009 for the students of BE 4/4 CSE at VCE campus. Acumen-09 Seminars A seminar on “Project Management Approach” was conducted for the students of BE 2/4 CSE A and B on 19th Jan, 2009. A Seminar on “Kracking Microsoft Interview” was conducted for the students of BE 3/4 CSE –B on 21th Jan,2009. A Seminar on “Winning Corporate Interview” was conducted for the students of BE 3/4 CSE – B on 28th Jan, 2009. Students Achievements V. Pranav Kumar, student of IV/IV B.E secured 5 Gold medals in Swimming Event conducted at National level. Many of our students appeared for GATE, GRE, CAT and GMAT this year and secured good scores. 10 students have secured remarkable scores in GRE, 10 students in TOFEL and 2 students in CAT. Hitesh, student of outgoing batch 2008 B.E got admission into IIM, Kozicode. 34 students are pursuing higher studies in Indian and Foreign Universities. CSE NEWS BULLETIN PAGE 3 Acumen ‘09 The department of Computer Science organize every year Acumen Technical Fest , which provides the platform for inter college students to exhibit their talent .This year we have organized “Acumen-09” during , Mar 5th to 7th 2009 .The fest included various events that helped the students in communicating innovative ideas that promote their technological skill through various events like Paper Presentation, Poster Presentation, Workshop, Quiz, CPU assemble, LAN Gaming, Tech Jam, Tech Tube, IDEA Presentation, Web Designing, Design demonstration, Creative kick, Tech debate. Around 600 students took part in various events ,the total prize money of 75,000 was given to winner participants. The success of “Acumen-09” goes to management and principal for giving the opportunity to organize Technical Fest , to all the Faculty members and Student Coordinators for taking a lead in making this program great success. Workshop Attended Faculty Column Paper Publications Dr. T. Adilakshmi has published a paper on “Power aware Routing for Mobile Agent in Ad – HOC Network” in the Journal of Theoretical & Applied Information Technology. Dr. Nagratna P Hegde has published a paper on “The role of kalman filter in the Modelling of GPS Errors”, in the Journal of Theoretical & Applied Information Technology. Dr. Nagratna P Hegde has published a paper on “Artificial Neural Network and other Methods of Image Classification”, in the Journal of Theoretical & Applied Information Technology. The computer science department faculty members are encouraged to participate in the activities taking place outside VCE such as workshops, conferences, faculty development programs. the following are the activities attended/participated by the faculty members A Workshop on “Faculty Enablement Program” was conducted by Mr. Sudheer Reddy from Infosys, Hyderabad organized at Infosys Technologies Limited, Hyderabad during June 9th to 12th 2009, were in the faculty from various technical institution were invited to participate in the program. Rammohan Rao, Assot Prof attended Conclave on “Internet Security” conducted by Experts from Deloitte on Feb 07th 2009 organized at Deloitte consulting India Pvt. Ltd. Hi-tech City Layout, Madapur, Hyderabad. Workshop on “Learn ability – Insights” was conducted by Experts from Wipro on Feb 5th 2009 organized by wipro Technologies at Zinnia Training Room, Manikonda, WiproTechnologies Hyderabad for gaculty members of CSE & IT. Workshop on “E – Learning” was conducted by Mr. N. Satyanarayana & experts from C-DAC during the Jan 20th & 22nd 2009 at VCE premises for faculty members of CSE ,IT & MCA. International conference on “Systemics Cybernetics & Informatics (ICSCI 2009)” was conducted during Jan 07th to 10th 2009 by Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy (MCR) HRD Institute, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad for the faculty members of CSE & IT. CSE NEWS BULLETIN Faculty higher studies Dr Nagaratna P Hegde was awarded Ph.D, in faculty of computer science & engineering for the thesis titled ”cellular automata used in spatial simulation” during Mar 2009 by JNTUH.
