RPA Compact Beam Steering Device
OPTRA, Inc. introduces a new family of compact optical beam steering devices based on a pair of rotating Risley prisms.
The RPA system offers a complete turnkey solution ideal for laser pointing, ranging and imaging applications, optical
communications, and laser trepanning and drilling.
The Risley Prism geometry has a number of advantages for optical beam steering applications. The inline optics has the
benefit of compact system size and less complex optical arrangement. The low inertia achieves high scanning speeds at
lower overall power. The rotational symmetry is ideal for machining applications with improved circularity of drilled
holes. The flat aperture is ideal for utilizing a conformal window on airborne platforms.
The modular design of the RPA system is easy to integrate with laser and imaging systems. The RPA system is digitally
controlled and can be directly commanded via a standard serial interface. The compact size and rugged capability of the
RPA system provide simple and durable OEM integration and long term performance.
