while being easy to install and use.
Laser Detection Products
Detection and characterization of lasers in the visible and new-infrared regime.
Laser Beam Steering Products
Used in high-speed scanning and tracking applications.
Instrumentation Products
Use of spectroscopy techniques to develop and manufacture high-end instrumentation for
trace material detection and contamination monitoring.
Custom Design and Development Services Design and manufacture of custom optical instruments for a wide variety of applications.
Metrology/Motion Control
Sensors that offer resolution and repeatability at
the nanometer level, are easy to install and use,
and manufactured for a broad range of applications
and industries.
Laser Detection
OPTRA’s laser detection technology leverages digital
camera technology with wavelength encoding optics
to measure the energy, wavelength, and temporal
characteristics of lasers operating in the visible to
near-IR regime.
OPTRA’s low-cost, lightweight, laser event recorder has
been designed to capture and record laser exposures.
The battery powered, self-contained sensor is rugged
enough for the most demanding applications (e.g.
aircraft or vehicle mounted) yet small and light enough
to be worn by an individual.

Instrumentation
OPTRA’s expertise in broad spectrum sources, optics
and detectors position it uniquely to develop high
end instrumentation for a wide range of applications.
From COTS products to systems custom-developed
to your company’s specifications, OPTRA is proud of
its ability to solve their customer’s toughest problems
in the areas of spectroscopy, thermography and
retroreflector arrays.
OPTRA’s multitude of spectroscopic products (Fourier
transform, scanning Fabry-Perot, dispersive, Raman,
tunable diode laser) are used for standoff tracematerial detection, industrial contamination monitoring
and military/private-sector surveillance.
Joint Service Lightweight Standoff
Chemical Agent Detector (JSLSCAD) is the
first chemical detection system to furnish
360° on-the-move coverage from ground,
air and sea-based platforms at distances
of up to five kilometers. It provides war
fighters of the four U.S. armed services with
early warning to avoid contaminated battle
spaces, or if avoidance is not possible, time
to don protective masks and clothing. The
spectrometer works in the 7 to 14 micron
spectral region. This product is currently in
FRIP and was part of a development effort led
by General Dynamics.
25mm (1.0”) Dia Clear Aperture Compact
Beam Steering System
Developed for the U.S. Air Force, OPTRA’s
Open-Path Fourier Transform Infrared (OPFTIR) Spectrometer identifies and quantifies
105 different compounds common to industrial
settings for indoor air quality monitoring.

Laser Beam Steering
OPTRA’s family of Laser Beam Steering Products use
compact Risley Prism pairs for fast steering laser
beams. Optimized closed loop bandwidth allows for
high-speed continuous spiral scanning for:
ffPoint-to-Point Tracking
ffHigh-Speed Scanning
OPTRA knows an off-the-shelf product may not provide the perfect solution, and offers customized versions
of all our products. With a full range of engineering disciplines, OPTRA can easily support special system
integration and customi-zation requests.
OPTRA has a long history of providing contract R&D services for non-contact measurement problems, and
specializes in the design and manufacture of custom optical instruments for use in:
ffDigital Imaging and Analysis
ffInterferometry
ffMetrology (micro- and nanoscale)
ffSpectroscopy (Remote and Long-Range)
OPTRA services the entire range of product development: from concept development and feasibility demonstration,
to fully engineered production prototypes, production tooling, and OEM manufacturing.
Current R&D Focus Areas
Originally founded to pursue funded research and development in the general area of electro-optical instrumentation
and advanced research in precision measurements using electro-optics, R&D and production are now equal
components of the OPTRA organization. This combination provides a unique blend of innovative new products
with contractual R&D services. Current R&D activities include:
ffRemote temperature sensing
ffAdvanced particle size measurement techniques
ffLaser beam steering for IRCM and free space optics applications
