your Individual Development Plans (IDPs) are
accomplished by signing up for training or taking
advantage of one of the developmental events
planned. Staff Development Day will be held on June 5,
2015 in the Graduate Center in White Plains. This is a
great time to gain some professional development! If you
have any questions, please contact Susan Donahue at
[email protected].
Our Staffing & Recruitment staff and student assistants participated in the Pace Career Services Job & Internship fairs held in NY and PL in October 2014. Update to Minimum Wage effective
December 31, 2014
New York State approved an increase to
minimum wage over the federal hourly limit of
$8. Effective December 31, 2014, the New
York State minimum wage increased to $8.75
per hour, and the University has acted to be in
compliance with this rate for all hourly paid
employees. The rates have been automatically
updated. As hourly paid employees are on a
bi-weekly payroll lag, this change impacted the
January 31, 2015 paycheck.
If you have any questions about this change or
how your student employees will be affected,
please reach out to Compensation within HR
(Jim Marshall or Ann Courtien). Want to Make a

All the best to Anu George, Programmer in HRIS, who moved on to Financial Information Systems
(FIS), where she is a Senior Financial Systems Analyst, effective February 1! Smoking Cessation
Thanks to those who participated in the Great American Smokeout on November 20, 2014! Every
year, on the third Thursday of November, smokers across the nation take part in the Great American
Smokeout, an event which challenges people to stop using tobacco and helps people know about
the many tools they can use to help them quit and stay tobacco-free.
To provide an extra incentive, we asked you to complete a very brief survey which would then enter
you into a drawing for one of four $25 gift cards if you pledged to stop smoking or help someone stop
smoking. Winners of the gift cards were: Nathifa Lewis, Seidenberg School of CSIS, NY; Jim
Marshall, Human Resources, BR; Denise Moreno, Psychology Dept, NY; Vicki Williams, OSA,
NY. Congratulations!
It is never too late to quit! If you are a Cigna participant, there are resources to help you, including
counselors on call. There is also an online coaching program, My Health Assistant, which is fun,
flexible, personalized and can provide the guidance you need to reach your goals. Sign up for the
smoking cessation program and you can receive “The Patch” and “Chantix” for no charge! There are
also interactive tools which can help you determine if you are ready to quit smoking, how much
smoking is costing you, how smoking is affecting your lifespan, etc. For more information, please go
to myCigna.com and enter your login and password.
If you are not a Cigna participant, or would like additional resources, please visit the websites of the
American Cancer Society or the New York State Smokers’ Quitline .
