How’s Programming? Residential Education Assessment 2013-2014 Methodology The third annual residential education assessment was completed at the conclusion of the academic year. An electronic survey utilizing Qualtrics was distributed to the residents from the period of April 7, 2014 through April 14, 2014, a total of 408 completed surveys were collected. Non-theme floors represented the bulk of the completed surveys with 286 responses, 122 responses were collected from theme floors. This is the second year that the survey was distributed via Qualtrics. i. Overall Programming Experience and Outcomes Comparative Data Question: How much did your theme floor experience contribute to enhancing your academic performance? Findings: Theme floor residents found a greater connection between their academics and their residence hall experience, with 43% percent of theme floor residents stating that their floor experience contributed greatly or some to their academic performance compared with 34% of nontheme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How much do you feel a sense of community with your building? Findings: Theme floor residents had a stronger sense of community within their building, 70% of theme floor residents stated they felt a great or some sense of community compared with 57% of non-theme residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How much do you feel a sense of community with the University at large? Findings: Theme floor residents had a stronger sense of community within the university at large, 71% of theme floor residents stated they felt a great or some sense of community compared with 59% of non-theme residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: To what extent did living on your floor enhance your overall satisfaction at Pace? Findings: Theme floor residents where generally more satisfied overall with Pace, 83% of theme floor residents stated they were greatly or somewhat some what satisfied compared to 66% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How much did living on your floor contribute to your development of friendships? Findings: Theme floor residents reported that their experience contributed to development of friendships more, 80% of theme floor residents reported their experience greatly or somewhat contributed to development of friendships compared to 63% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: To what extent did you participate in fostering a sense of community among the members living on your floor? Findings: Theme floor residents were more active in fostering a sense of community amongst the floor, 79% of theme floor residents either greatly or somewhat greatly contributed to development of community compared with 56% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: To what extent did you feel a sense of community with members of your floor? Findings: Theme floor residents felt a stronger sense of community on their floor, 80% of theme floor residents responded they either greatly or felt some sense of community compared with 54% of nontheme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: To what extent has participation in the [theme] floor living help clarify your academic goals? Findings: Academic goals where clarified more on theme floors when compared to non-theme floors, 42% of theme floor residents felt their experience greatly or somewhat greatly clarified their academic goals compared to 37% of non-theme floors. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: To what extent did living on the [theme] floor motivate you to learn more about the [theme] or topic? Findings: Theme floor residents were slightly more motivated to learn about something they experienced as a result of exploration of a topic, 50% of theme floor residents felt greatly or somewhat motivated to learn more compared to 37% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How much do you feel that being on a [theme] floor motivate you to be a better community member within the residence halls? Findings: Theme floor residents are more motivated to be a better community member, 55% of theme floor residents stated their floor greatly or somewhat motivated them to be a better community member compared with 51% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor ii. Resident Motivation Comparative Data Question: Please rank (in order) why you attend programming. Findings: Both theme floor residents and non-theme floor residents stated they attended programming because of free offers such as food, tickets and giveaways as their greatest motivation to attending programs. Interests based reasons were the second greatest factor on both theme and non-theme floor residents. Theme floor residents are generally more motivated because of an inherent interest with a topic, 21% of theme floor residents ranked interest as their top reason compared to 15% of non-theme floor residents. Theme Non-Theme iii. Preferred Programming Method Comparative Data. Question: Please rank (in order) your favorite type of program to attend. Findings: Both theme (23%) floor and non-theme (22%) floor residents ranked guest speakers as their favorite type of program to attend. Both theme floor and non-theme floor residents rank in building events as there second favorite events to attend. Theme Non-Theme iv. Satisfaction with Programming Method Comparative Data Question: How was your experience attending guest speaker events? Findings: Theme floor residents were more satisfied with guest speaker events, with 44% stating they found these events excellent or good compared with 37% of non-theme floor residents. Non-theme floors are not required to have guest speakers as part of the programming model. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How was your experience attending in building events? Findings: Theme floor residents were more satisfied with in building events, with 71% stating they found these events excellent or good compared with 60% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How was your experience attending out of building events (non-volunteer related)? Findings: Theme floor residents were more satisfied with out of building events (non-volunteer related), with 57% stating they found these events excellent or good compared with 42% of nontheme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor Question: How was your experience attending out of building (volunteer related) events? Findings: Theme floor residents were more satisfied with out of building events (volunteer related), with 49% stating they found these events excellent or good compared with 35% of non-theme floor residents. Non-Theme Floor Theme Floor v. Resident Satisfaction with RA Comparative Data Question: My RA is responsive to my needs. Findings: Theme floor RAs had higher satisfaction than non-theme floor RAs, 82% of theme floor residents stated they strongly agreed or agreed that they RAs were responsive to their needs compared to 79% of non-theme floor residents. Question: My RA was passionate about creating programs worth attending [about the theme]. Findings: Theme floor RAs had a higher perceived interest in programming, 79% either strongly agreed or agreed with the RAs interest in programming compared to 73% of non-theme floor residents. Question: My RA was invested in building a community on the floor. Findings: Residents of theme floors perceived that the RAs had a higher interest in creating community on their floor 78% strongly agreed or agreed compared to 70% of non-theme floor residents.
