Tau Kappa Epsilon
Alpha Kappa Alpha
On behalf of the men in Tau Kappa Epsilon we
would like to welcome everybody back to what already
has become a very exciting and eventful year. Internally in
Tau Kappa Epsilon the ball has been rolling and our men a
striving to achieve academic success, while participating
in different events on and around campus, some of these
events include Greek week, stadium cleaning after Akron
football games, and the walk for Juvenile Diabetes in
Canton. In addition we participated and won Alpha Delta
Pi’s Pi Teching competition for the second straight year
and are already looking forward to Lip Jam and other up
coming events.
The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated are looking forward to a sensational fall semester.
After participating in campus events geared toward Greek
Life, the Delta Pi Chapter is ready to reach out to the
community. Alpha Kappa Alpha is looking forward to the
workshops that are set to run this semester. These
workshops are focused on the empowerment of women
through health, self preservation and economic awareness.
AKA will also be participating in various community
service events throughout the year. Active in the
community and within our national body, we promptly
attended our regional Undergraduate Roundup and
Leadership Conference in September. During this event,
Alpha Kappa Alpha chapters got together to discuss the
sorority and how each chapter can be of better service to
all mankind. AKA is proud of their cultivation and
encouragement of high scholastic and ethical standards.
That encouragement motivates each member to strive
towards excellence each semester. Congratulations to
member LaDonna Mills for her receipt of both the most
improved and highest GPA intra-sorority scholarships.
Proudly, LaDonna was recognized both locally and
regionally for her achievements. We also congratulate our
members Tia Hill and Tyra Nelson who graduated in the
spring of 2007. We are also looking forward to adding
April Parms-Elloie and Roxanne Witherspoon to our list of
outstanding graduates this December. With the graduations
of our prestigious members came the nominations of new
officers for the semester. Our new vice president, Ivellisse
Road and Ivy Leaf Reporter Erica Bronner recently
stepped into their new positions of leadership and are
ready to work. Keep your eyes open for these women
of Alpha Kappa Alpha this semester, extending service
with purpose.

The women of Alpha Delta Pi would like to
welcome our eighteen amazing new members. We would
like to thank Stephanie Mrofchak, Sarah Barbuto, and
Mary Zitnik for the great work they did to give us such a
great recruitment! We started this semester with our Lion
Share Challenge, Pi Teching, which was held to benefit
our philanthropy, The Ronald McDonald House. We
kicked off our Pi Teching Challenge with a barbeque on
September 25. The challenge lasted until September 27.
The first place winners were the men of Tau Kappa
Epsilon, who were awarded $100 to their philanthropy. In
second place were the men of Sigma Nu, who were
awarded $50 towards their philanthropy. In third place
were the men of Lambda Chi Alpha, who were awarded
$30 towards their philanthropy. Thank you to everyone
who participated! On October 13, we held our Alpha
Delta Pi Style Show, where a handful of our members and
alumni strutted down the runway and modeled fashions
during a luncheon at Todaro’s in Akron. This style show
helped raise money for the Jean Uhl Memorial Fund and
The Ronald McDonald House. The women of Alpha Delta
Pi have volunteered at different service events this
semester, including the Akron Marathon, Lambda Chi
Alpha’s “Pumpkin Bust”, and Delta Gamma’s “Pi a DG”.
Congratulations to those who won during Greek Week!
We anticipate this semester to be plenty of fun as we
attend philanthropy events, intramurals, our Semi- Formal
Dance, socials, and as we continue to strengthen our
sisterhood. Good luck to everyone this semester, especially those who graduate this December!
This year Rho Lambda has many great
activities and events planned. Rho Lambda has sisterhoods
planned as well as socials with other organizations planned
for this semester. We would also like to wish everyone a
great and productive rest of the semester!
The women of Delta Gamma have had a very busy
semester! We started off the semester with a very
successful recruitment putting us at house total! We are
very excited to welcome our new sisters and have them
join their families in the upcoming big/little event. After
finishing recruitment we ended September with our annual
T-Off philanthropy event. We would like to thank
everyone who participated in the event for making it
successful. We would like to wish the Greek community
an exciting and successful semester!
Phi Kappa Tau started out this year with various
endeavors to continue our commitment to life long
leadership, brotherhood, and service. As always, we
continue to place a high emphasis on academic excellence
through weekly mandated study hours and on going grade
verifications throughout the semester. Recently, our
chapter had the opportunity to assist the greater Akron
Community through our volunteer efforts at the annual
Akron Road Runner Marathon. Additionally, we look
forward to volunteering at Make a Difference Day at the
end of October. Some of the biggest changes to Phi Tau
have taken place right in our back yard. Our patio and new
retaining wall project which was sponsored by our
chapter’s Graduate Council began over the summer and
was completed at the start of October. On October 13, we
had the official dedication of the patio with both active
members and alumni present to celebrate our success.
Additionally, using the resources provided by the Greek
Week Double Dare Challenge, we rebuilt our outdoor fire
pit area by enlarging the upper portion of the hill in our
backyard. We are very excited about all of our recent
accomplishments as men of character and look forward to
many more successes this year.
Lonestar
Over the summer Lone Star celebrated its 125th
anniversary which was held at the Student Union. Over
500 Lone Star Alumni from all over our great country
attended this event. Throughout the summer and this fall
we have volunteered our time in the campaign to elect
Mayor Don Plusquellic and Councilman Bob Keith of
ward 8. For our philanthropy event this fall/ winter we will
be have Santa come from the North Pole to visit the
children in the student union to hear their Christmas
wishes. We will raise money from this and donate it to
Children’s Hospital. We are also donating
hand-decorated pumpkins to the children as well.
Lambda Chi Alpha
September 29th was the host of our first annual
pumpkin bust. The entire week was full of events all
based around a pumpkin theme. Events included a
pumpkin pie baking and eating contest, pumpkin carving
contest, pumpkin throwing contest, and many others.
Alpha Phi was able to edge out the rest of the competition
for the win overall of the events that were held throughout
the week. Even with our new pumpkin bust events we
will still be holding our annual presidents kidnapping on
Sunday Nov 4th. Participating chapters will have to bring
canned foods and/or money to the Lambda Chi house in
order to free their presidents. The winning chapter who
brings in the most poundage in food or money, will have a
trophy with their name on a plate which is passed to the
winner each year. All proceeds will go directly to The
North American Food Drive and The Akron-Canton
Food Bank.
Panhellenic Council
The Panhellenic Council has been working hard to
make this fall semester a great one. Formal recruitment
was a success with all of the chapters gaining wonderful
new women. Congratulations to PHC Vice President of
Recruitment Brittany Wolonsky, PHC President Ali
Rearick, Head Rho Gamma Jessica Congeni, and all of the
Rho Gammas from each chapter that worked hard all
summer to put on this year’s formal recruitment. Chapters
have been recruiting since then with their own continuous
open bidding events and we wish them the best of luck!
The women of the Panhellenic Council wish everyone the
best of luck on their midterms and the rest of their semester!

Phi Delta Theta
The men of Phi Delta Theta would like to
welcome everyone back from a great summer! It proved
to be a productive and rewarding summer for Phi Delt, as
we garnered the following awards from our General
Headquarters: GHQ Trophy, Bigger’s Ritual Trophy,
Community Service Citation, and the Outstanding
Improvement Award. In addition, our chapter spent the
summer changing our New Member Education program as
well as our recruitment philosophy. We are well on our
way to reaching our goal of doubling our chapter size by
the end of this semester. In a nutshell, that has been the
entire focus of our chapter thus far in the semester. We
would like to wish everyone a productive and successful
rest of the semester. We look forward to participating in
other chapter’s social and philanthropic events now that
we’ve settled down into our temporary house.
Order of Omega
The Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Order of
Omega at the University of Akron is Proud to announce
the success of our first Greek Week Event “The Legend of
the Omega Temple”. As a National Greek Honorary, the
game of testing speed and intellect seemed appropriate for
the chapter’s event as well as to challenge the Greek
community to their highest potential. We hope the program
was met with acceptance and enthusiasm for we anticipate
it marked the beginning of an annual event.
Order of Omega offers great opportunities for
Leadership and Scholarship, and we would like to
encourage the Greek community to apply.
The Induction Date into the Order of Omega is scheduled
for November 10, 2007.
