Alpha Sigma Phi
Delta Gamma
Once again, the gentlemen of Alpha Sigma Phi are
having a fantastic semester! For the fall 2007 semester
alone, we had outstanding 57% percent of our Brothers
make the Dean's List. This past February 3rd also marked
the official first big year for the Epsilon Sigma chapter
here at The University of Akron.
After a relaxing winter break the women of
Delta Gamma are rejuvenated and ready for another
exciting semester at The University of Akron! Informal recruitment events have filled the last week of
January and early February, providing our chapter
with the opportunity to promote our organization and
grow as a chapter. Members Kelli Fetter and Heather
Spencer organized the events, and they have done a
wonderful job in publicizing and planning activities
for the Spring recruitment period. We have a wonderful new member class, and we are excited and
supportive as they embark on their journey as a New
Members. Social Chair Nikki Ames is ardently
working to prepare our first Spring Semi-Formal,
which will be a lovely evening of dessert and dancing
to be held at the Student Union. We are looking
forward to our major annual philanthropic event this
Spring, Anchor Splash. The event provides the
chapter with a wonderful opportunity to work with
the Greek Community to raise money for the Delta
Gamma Foundation and Service for Sight, which
benefits the blind. We have begun to organize teams,
and we are striving to increase the participation
among the Greek life community for the event as well
as to strengthen our fundraising capabilities.
Alpha Delta Pi
The women of Alpha Delta Pi would like to
thank everyone who participated in our brand new
Philanthropy event called PiHop which took place at
the end of December. For this event, we made and
delivered pancake and sausage breakfasts to the
various chapter houses around campus and all of the
money raised went to the Ronald McDonald House. It
was very successful and we greatly appreciate
everyone who supported us! At the end of Christmas
Break, we held our Officer Transition Workship at
Steinway Hall. Sisters were able to enjoy breakfast
and lunch together while listening to speakers and
learning about the responsibilities of their new office.
After a month off of school, we were all very excited
to be back in Akron for the start of a new semester.
During the second week of classes, we enjoyed a visit
from one of our Leadership Consultants and at the
beginning of February, we volunteered at the Akron
Rotary Club Chili Open Golf Tournament with the
men of Phi Gamma Delta. We have also been very
busy with our Spring Recruitment events and are so
excited that we just welcomed five new sisters in to
our chapter! We hope everyone has a great semester
and look forward to many exciting events to come!
Panhellenic Council
The Panhellenic Council would like to
congratulate and welcome all of the new members of
the Panhellenic community! International Badge
Day, an annual event during which sorority women
everywhere honor their Greek affiliations by wearing
their badge or letters, will be held on Monday, March
3. Also on March 3, the Panhellenic Council is
sponsoring a sisterhood event, making Easter baskets
for children at Akron Children’s Hospital. We look
forward to seeing you there!

Phi Sigma Kappa
Sigma Nu
Last semester was a semester of improvement
for the men of Sigma Nu. We recruited a handful of
excellent men, and made improvements on our
grades. This semester we plan on improving even
more. We are actively recruiting and still putting a
large focus on our grades. Also, we try to get the
whole chapter together at least once a week to do
something fun. We shoot pool, throw darts, and have
a general good time. Upcoming philanthropy events
include a 5K Run. The men of Sigma Nu encourage
all to do the best that they can and enjoy the semester.
This spring the men of Phi Sigma Kappa have
made big plans for the months ahead. After an overall
improvement of grades, recruitment, and exemplary
community service record last semester; we have
dedicated the upcoming season to adding to our
achievements. W are currently extending our
brotherhood to three perspective new members in
Trey Schell, Trey Maurick, and Max Dunn. We look
forward in the upcoming semester in participating in
Relay for Life, Red Cross sponsored events, philanthropies, and various social events.
Tau Kappa Epsilon
The members of Tau Kappa Epsilon have had
a busy schedule. Many of our members have signed
up for G.L.A.S.S. and are looking forward to the
activities to come. We are also looking forward to
many other service events this semester such as
"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes", which raises money to
help abused women and rape victims. We will also be
participating in "Up ‘Til Dawn" later this month.
Currently we are working on rush and grades.
Alpha Kappa Alpha
The women of the Delta Pi Chapter of Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated are excited to be
back on campus on this, our centennial year! We are
celebrating 100 years of Excellence, Sisterhood, and
Prosperity. We are proud to be the first African
American sorority to celebrate 100 years of
sisterhood. We would like to welcome all students
back to campus and are wishing all a successful
semester. There is plenty to look forward to in this
new year for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Incorporated Here are some highlights of what we
have in store for our campus this semester:
We will be having Skee Week April 14-20.
This week is a week that has been carefully planned
to include fun and service as well as tradition and
history. We are also encouraging academic excellence
by having study tables every fourth Thursday of the
month. In May we are planning an nontraditional
Mother’s Day celebration, honoring women who have
raised other’s children as their own. Other events
include, Mirror Talk, Mr. AKA and much more. So
keep your eyes and ears open for the women of the
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Pi Chapter, as we have
plenty in store for everyone. Thank you to all who
came out to support the academic progression of our
youth on Feb 4th-7th. The Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Inc./Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Book
Drive was a success and we are now able to donate a
significant amount of books to the children of our
community.
As we look forward to a new year we have
members looking forward to a new future.
Congratulations to the members of Delta Pi chapter
who graduated in December 2007. Those members
are: Roxanne Witherspoon, and April Parms-Elloie.
We are proud of you and wish you the best life has to
offer in all of your future endeavors. We are also
excited about other changes in the structural makeup
of our chapter and welcome with open arms our new
Graduate Advisor, Joyce Rowland, and our new
Assistant Graduate Advisor, Mary Lane Wright.
Thank you for stepping up and offering your guidance
for this 2008 school year!
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is
proud to carry on the dream of sisterhood and service
realized by our founders. This dream that has reached
far beyond their time and touched the hearts of
millions will continue to be cherished in the heart of
the Delta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Incorporated. We look forward to another 100 years
of sophistAKAtion!
Sigma Alpha Epsilon
The proud men of Sigma Alpha Epsilon are on
a current progressive slope. Growing greatly in
numbers after every wonderful semester this campus
provides us. We recently added 10 new members to
our fine brotherhood and are thankful for each and
every True Gentleman we initiate. Living by our
motto we worked intensely to create a strong unified
brotherhood of life-long friendships. This upcoming
spring semester we look forward to participating in
other Greek fellowships philanthropic events as well
as welcoming everyone to our Paddy Murphy Week.
Also our great brothers are working to put together a
poker night fundraiser as well as a public speaker. We
will continue to strive to be the best men we can be
and above all else True Gentlemen.
Phi Kappa Tau
Earlier this semester, our alumni hosted a
reverse raffle and raised nearly $2200 for their
Graduate Council. On February 16th we celebrated
the 70th anniversary of our Alpha Phi chapter here at
the U of A. Also on that same day four of our active
members attended a regional Leadership Conference
at Baldwin-Wallace. We are starting to prepare for
our third annual volleyball tournament. This year we
plan to have a variety of events, including a beach
blanket contest, leading up to the tournament on April
26th. Things have been rolling right along this
semester. We look forward to participating in the
events held by the other chapters here at The
University of Akron this semester.
