Members are excited for the 2011/2012 school year.
We have prepared so many wonderful events for
students. Planned events for the semester are: Change
for Change: The PolitAKAl Edition, Think Pink:
Eat & Save Green, and Let’s Talk about Sex...Baby
We’d like to start by congratulating all of the chapters
on an eventful start to the school year with all of the
recruitment events. The Alpha Phi men of Phi Kappa
Tau are just a few weeks into the semester and are
pressing forward to continue making our campus more
enjoyable for everyone! The men have worked hard
all summer and have been looking forward to the Fall.
Our biggest philanthropy event took place this summer
raising over $16,000, with all the proceeds going
to the Hole in the Wall Camps. We have already
gotten head start on our annual haunted house this
Halloween!
We are proud to have twelve new members with us this
fall and are looking forward to showing them what it
means to be Greek! Determination and perseverance
are the two best words to describe the attitude of Phi
Kappa Tau – Alpha Phi chapter this Fall. We look
forward to continuing this already great semester and
we wish the entire Greek Community the best of luck
on the rest of the semester.
excited to host our FIJI 5K on October 15, 2011to
help benefit the children of the Akron Community

semester and in all Greek week events.
Alpha Sigma Phi –
Epsilon Sigma Chapter
Phi Gamma Delta –
Alpha Omicron Chapter
The Men of Alpha Sigma Phi have had a very busy
but good beginning of the school year. We already
had our annual fall philanthropy event, The Livestrong
Bike-A-Thon, which took place on September 10th,
and it went very well. We are also proud to announce
that we had some men of excellent standards join our
ranks over the summer and we have a great start with
recruitment this semester already! We are looking
forward to the many events that other chapters are
putting on throughout the fall and we are excited for the
possibilities of a new semester. We hope that everyone
had an excellent summer and we are looking forward to
seeing all of you on campus!
The brothers of the Alpha Omicron chapter of Phi
Gamma Delta would like to welcome you back from
summer vacation, and wish you best of luck in the
upcoming semester. The men of FIJI have been hard
at work at: philanthropy, service events, and improving
grades. By the end of spring 2011, the Alpha Omicron
Chapter rose over $5,000 in philanthropy, and had
over 800 hours of service.
This year the bar was set to a new standard, some of
the goals for this semester are: raise over $4000 in
philanthropy, 1000 service hours, and a 3.2 GPA. This
year FIJI will be part of: Nazareth Housing, American

Phi Delta Theta –
Ohio Epsilon Chapter
This semester, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. the
UnmiZtakable Upsilon Epsilon Chapter, has been the
2011 recipient of the OMD Award, which recognizes
the most outstanding NPHC Greek organization
that promotes multicultural unity amongst various
organizations on campus. Next month Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, Inc. and S.L.A.M. will be hosting Café Blue:
S.L.A.M. Edition on October 11th from 7-9pm in
Student Union Ballroom B. S.L.A.M, Spoken Like
A Metaphor, is a new organization on campus that
provides workshops and public speaking seminars to
help college students that have a creative passion for
poetry and spoken word, become comfortable sharing
their work in front of an audience. Admission is a new
or gently used fall/winter baby item, or $3.
The men of Phi Delta Theta are excited to be back
for a new school year and have already accomplished
a great deal to prepare for the Fall semester. Over the
summer we were proud to have two brothers serve as
delegates in our annual Emerging Leaders Institute at
Miami University and our president Michael Denissoff
attend as a peer mentor. Our summer executive
retreat set the tone to keep our focus on academics,
recruitment, and service. The result has been a class
of thirteen quality Phikeia, who we look forward to
introducing to all of Greek life, and more to come
in our second Fall class. A long outstanding house
improvement has come to fruition as we recently
completed our theatre room which will also serve in
capacity as a place for new member education.
Also, every third Saturday of the month, Upsilon
Epsilon and our graduate chapter, Mu Rho Zeta,
participate in Stork’s Nest, a national program of Zeta
Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., that provides prenatal care and
information to expecting mothers of lower income, at
the South Arlington United Methodist Church from
10-1pm. Please check us out at www.yezetas.com or
feel free to e mail us at [email protected] if you are
interested in volunteering. We hope you will join us as
we prepare to have a wonderful semester.
We recently hosted a scholarship breakfast with
alumni, friends, and family to recognize individual
academic achievement and introduce Phi Delta
Theta to the families of our new members. Later
that afternoon a dedication ceremony was held at the
northwestern gate of Infocision Stadium to honor all
varsity Phi athletes with the presentation of a memorial
walkway.
Looking to the future, we anticipate a strong showing
in Greek Week and wish luck to all of our fellow
participants. At the end of October we will be
fundraising at Cedar Point and volunteering at the
Green community Haunted Hay Ride. Plans are also
underway for an all Greek tailgate on November 14th,
so stay tuned!

is our national Philanthropy and aids the blind and
visually impaired. We look forward to having the
support of all the Greek chapters on campus.
Lambda Chi Alpha –
Gamma Alpha Chapter
Lambda Chi Alpha has recently Associated 9 new
Associate Members into the active Chapter. The
Lambda Chi’s are very excited for Fall recruitment,
and many other worthy candidates will be associated
upon our next Associate Member Ceremony this
coming Sunday. Our regional responsibilities as a
“Big Brother Chapter” to the new Baldwin Wallace
Lambda Chi Alpha Chapter have really put an electric
fee; in the air as far as our sense of Brotherhood!
The opportunity to reach out to other Lambda Chi
Chapters at other colleges and help them grow and
prosper is an honor.
Our Chapter President Jharell D. Watkins as well as
several other officers will be venturing to the B.W.
College to associate MORE of their new members this
weekend. The lad’s were ecstatic to learn that team 4
is stacked with power players within the Akron Greek
Community, and especially the return of the stroll
off Queen’s of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. We
are pumped for the stroll off again this year, and are
anxious to learn more about the history of strolling as
we approach big show.
The women of Delta Gamma are anxiously awaiting
Greek Week and Homecoming. With other events
still around the corner, Delta Gamma looks forward to
working with the rest of the Greek community to make
this a successful semester!
The stage is set and while balancing our
responsibilities to the community, our own chapter,
and continually managing our increasing 3.0 GPA we
hope to bring new heights to Lambda Chi Alpha! Roll
Chi!
Phi Sigma Kappa –
Eta Triton Capter
2011 has been a very exciting year for the men of
Phi Sigma Kappa at the University of Akron and we
hope to keep that momentum moving forward. In the
spring we initiated 6 new brothers into the fraternity
and have since seen them enjoy continue to enjoy
their Phi Sig experience.
4
In the Summer, brothers returned for a fundraiser
held at Wing Warehouse in Canal Park with members
helping serve food, bar back, and even cook to help
raise money for house improvements. The 63rd
annual Phi Sigma Kappa convention was held in New
Orleans, LA from August 3rd through the 6th, which
three of our brothers attended and will never forget.
Starting the 2011 fall semester, the men of Phi Sig
have been busy with applying new mulch donated
by Donzell’s Greenhouse and Garden Center,
participating in IFC recruitment events and the Akron
Roadrunner Marathon, and more. Through the fall
semester we have associated 11 new members and
hope to see them take full of advantage of everything
Phi Sigma Kappa has to offer. We look forward to
making fall 2011 a great semester and wish all of the
Greek organizations on campus good luck this year.
Alpha Delta Pi –
Beta Tau Chapter
The Beta Tau chapter of Alpha Delta Pi had a great
summer and return to Akron! This summer, our
chapter President had the opportunity to go to Alpha
Delta Pi’s Grand Convention, where we were honored
to be named a Golden Lion chapter again! Only 12 out
of 138 chapters receive this honor, and we are so proud
of Beta Tau’s hard work and dedication to our sorority.
October 4. It will be a cookout with dinner and dessert
made by our sisters, or to “Pi” an ADPi (our most
popular event at Pi-A-Palooza). All proceeds go to a
great cause!
Alpha Delta Pi would like to congratulate all Greek
chapters for a great recruitment and wishes everyone a
happy fall and best of luck at Greek Week!
Alpha Phi –
Eta Gamma Chapter
Alpha Phi is happy to report that their end of the
year philanthropy event, “Eat Your Heart Out” with
Phi Delta Theta was a huge success. Thank you to
everyone who participated, watched, and bought
T-shirts. Look out for the same thing next year as it will
become an annual event!
This fall, Beta Tau was so excited to welcome home
eighteen amazing women who we can now call sisters.
We have spent a lot of time getting to know our new
women through many great sisterhoods like ice cream
trips and movie nights! In our spare time, Beta Tau
started three flag football teams and is ready to defend
the all campus championship won last year.
Beta Tau also has been busy planning philanthropy
events in order to raise money for our philanthropy,
The Ronald McDonald House. Alpha Delta Pi kicked
off our fundraising through a Dine To Donate night
at the Barley House on September 22 and is holding
the annual Pi-A-Palooza event at the chapter house on

attended a camping trip where they went rafting,
horseback riding, and even set up their camp sites by
themselves!
This semester we are looking forward to participating
in everyone’s philanthropy events, as well as our own
“King of Hearts”. King of Hearts is a male beauty
pageant in which any man from a student organization
can participate. All of the proceeds go to the Alpha
Phi foundation which supports Women’s Cardiac
Care. We are also hosting an alumni Founders Day
ceremony and are excited to celebrate the founding of
our beloved Alpha Phi.
When the fall semester came around, we were very
busy with recruitment events. We are very excited to
get to know our 18 new sisters that accepted bids to our
chapter. We are excited to hold sisterhood events such
as a movie night this week to get the chance to bond
as a bigger, better chapter. We are also very proud of
our flag football team that started their games at the
beginning of September.
We are more than proud to say this recruitment
was extremely successful and we are excited to be
welcoming so many beautiful new sisters into our
chapter. Congratulations to all of Greek life on a
recruitment job well done!
Alpha Gamma Delta –
Omega Chapter
Over the summer, the women of the Omega
Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta continued to be
very philanthropic by spending much of their time
volunteering at events and helping the community.
Some of the women volunteered one afternoon serving
pasta at the Italian Festival and went off to serve ice
cream sundaes to campers at Camp Quality. Camp
Quality was the philanthropy for Songfest 2011, and
it was great seeing our hard work put to good use as
the camp is designed for kids with cancer having the
opportunity to just be kids. To build our sisterhood
even higher, during the month of July our sisters

As the semester continues on there are many events
that we will be looking forward to participating in.
Once again we will be hosting Lip Jam to raise money
for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. We will also
be going to Cedar Point again this year to be “fun”raisers. The women of Alpha Gamma Delta will also
be hosting their first event Octoberfest at our chapter
house on October 15, 2011 from 1pm to 4pm. We
are excited to see all of the Greeks participate in a pie
eating contest, pumpkin carving contest, and a corn
hole tournament! There will be yummy fall treats as
well such as caramel apples and hot cider.
Kappa Kappa Gamma –
Lamba Chapter
The women of Kappa Kappa Gamma have had a busy
but wonderful start to our fall semester. Kappas would
like to first congratulate everyone on such a successful
recruitment. We are honored to welcome 21 beautiful
women into our chapter! We celebrated bid day with
many different carnival activities to go along with our
theme, Kappa Karnival. We were blessed to have
our Leadership Consultant, Brianne, stay with for the
entire week of recruitment. She was a true inspiration
to each and every one of us and kept us motivated all
throughout recruitment.
Tau Kappa Epsilon –
Beta Rho Chapter
The men of Tau Kappa Epsilon had a great spring
and summer semester. In the spring, we participated
in the Relay for Life by selling hotdogs to the walkers.
We paired up with Lambda Chi for this event, and
raised a lot of money despite the rainy conditions.
Also, we participated in our own philanthropy event,
Walk a Mile in her shoes. This is a walk around
downtown Akron held by the Rape Crisis Center to
raise awareness of rape and abuse. The walkers literally
walk a mile in women’s shoes while holding signs and
banners. To raise money for the event we sold bracelets
in the Student Union, with the rape crisis center’s
number on them.
Over the summer we held an alumni golf outing, which
greatly strengthened the relationship between alumnus
and the younger members.
This fall we have many plans for service in the
community. So far we have already participated
in our Taste of the NFL event which is at the Pro
Football Hall of Fame where we helped set up and
tear down for the event. Also this Sunday we have the
Light the Night walk which we will be helping set up
and providing assistance during the event. We have
planned is a Memory Walk at Blossom supporting aid
for Alzheimer’s disease and a Heart Walk for Heart
Disease. We are starting out this year very strong and
look forward to more events in the future.

Before the fall semester began, Kappas were busy all
throughout the summer. In June, Kappas from all over
Ohio headed to Ashley, Ohio to visit Kappa Kidney
Camp. These women were able to spend an entire day
tye dying and playing with children who are on kidney
dialysis or have received a kidney transplant. Also,
many women were granted the Kappa Scholarship
for $3,000 for all of their hard work and dedication to
Lambda Chapter.
We were also more than happy to welcome a Kappa
transfer student from Denison University into our
chapter!
We are looking forward to celebrating and hosting our
annual philanthropy event Balloon Pop. Kappas have
been preparing and planning for many months and
couldn’t be more excited to raise money for Kappa
Kidney Camp. Along with Balloon Pop, the women of
Kappa Kappa Gamma have a full schedule celebrating
our Founder’s Day, Date Party, Greek Week and
many sisterhoods and socials throughout the rest of this
semester.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon –
Ohio Phi Chapter
As intramurals begin to start up, Sigma Alpha Epsilon
is glad to welcome back friendly competition amongst
other fraternities. With veterans playing on the
offensive side of the ball and a stellar defense, the men
of Sigma Alpha Epsilon look to make a run at the
championship. Sigma Alpha Epsilon would like to
thank all of those that come out and support and watch
us. As the semester wears on, Sigma Alpha Epsilon
looks forward to participating in various Greek life
philanthropy events and fundraisers. Lastly, the men of
Sigma Alpha Epsilon would like to wish everyone the
best of luck this semester and look forward to seeing
everyone’s familiar faces as well as meeting new ones.
Office Updates
The Ohio Phi chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon is
excited to welcome a new semester’s start and enjoys
seeing the campus buzzing yet once again. Our chapter
is pleased to announce that we have seven new potential
members that have demonstrated the characteristics
and promise of true gentlemen. The brothers of Sigma
Alpha Epsilon would like to congratulate these men,
and any of the other men or women that have chosen
the path to join the Greek community here at The
University of Akron. Throughout the summer and
early fall, with the help of fundraising, continuous
improvements have been made to improve the overall
appearance both inside and out of the fraternity house.
Congratulations on a successful first half of the
semester! Greek Week 2011, Greek Life: A Buried
Treasure was a success between pirate costumes,
strolling, AdoptaPlatoon service efforts and more! The
ultimate goal, building Greek unity, was displayed by
fostering healthy competition in teams consisting of
chapters and organizations from all three councils. The
final standings were:
1st Place: Pirates Treasure (Alpha Delta Phi, Alpha
Kappa Alpha, FIJI, and Phi Kappa Tau)
2nd Place: Lil’ Mermaidz (Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha
Sigma Phi, Iota Phi Theta, and Sigma Nu)
