Chapter Reports
Many Kappas took a day trip to our headquarters in
Columbus, where they met sisters from Ohio State
University and toured one of our museums!
Alpha Phi Alpha – Alpha
Tau Chapter
We are very sad to announce that eight of our sisters
are becoming alumnae at the end of this semester and
we are planning on making the last few weeks count!
We have so many things we are looking forward to,
like our philanthropy event, Spaghetti Dinner. Then
we have Relay for Life, Sapphire Ball, Songfest, Senior
Night, and our National Convention is coming up
in June along with Kappa Kidney Camp! We hope
everyone has a wonderful rest of the semester and a fun
safe summer!
This semester has been going great for our fraternity.
The last week of March was Alpha week and we
focused on “Giving Back to the Community.” We went
to the Boys and Girls Club and helped the kids with
homework, activities, served them food, and helped
clean up the facility. The kids enjoyed all of us and
appreciated us taking time out of our day to help them
out. We also had a food drive in the Student Union
for “Harvest for Hunger.” We collected many canned
foods and clothes. To end the week we had a huge
breakfast at Golden Corral where many students, and
Greek organizations all came out to celebrate another
successful Alpha week.
Kappa Kappa Gamma
The women of Kappa Kappa Gamma are having a
phenomenal spring semester! We had a very successful
spring recruitment and welcomed 5 lovely newly
initiated members! We had a fitness social with the
women of Alpha Gamma Delta, solved a mystery
with the men of Phi Delta Theta and bowled some
strikes with the men of Lambda Chi Alpha. Kappa also
participated in the Up ‘Til, had a fiesta at the Polar
Bear Jump wearing their Sombreros and mustaches
and hosted a program about how girl on girl bullying
affects everyone for Women’s History Month!
Our sisterhood has become even stronger this
semester. We have had some amazing new experiences
and have grown closer this semester through our
sisterhoods, programs, and events. Our new members
started a new tradition of Spaghetti Night once a week!
Chapter Award and the Bronze Praestantia Award.
In addition to our chapter awards, Melanie Salerno
received the Chapter President of the Year Award,
Hilary Ayers and Melanie Salerno were awarded the
coveted Thomas J. Vukovich Awards. Many Alpha
Gams received recognition for membership in Rho
Lambda, Order of Omega and Gamma Sigma Alpha.
The sisters celebrated their most cherished week of the
semester, Initiation Week, the last week in March. The
Omega Chapter welcomed six new sisters on March
30th. The week concluded with our Red Rose Formal
at Guy’s Party Center. The entire chapter was thrilled
at the outcome of Songfest.
Alpha Phi
The ladies of Alpha Phi had a very successful 7th
Annual Red Dress Gala; we donated a total of $4,015
to The Alpha Phi Foundation in support of Women’s
Heart Health. We would also like to thank everyone
who helped support us. We greatly appreciate it! Have
a great and safe summer.
Lambda Chi Alpha
The men of Lambda Chi Alpha are getting ready for
our brotherhood week next week, ending with ritual
and initiating 5 new associates on Saturday. We are
also looking forward to our 40th annual Bath Tub Pull
on April 15th, we really encourage every chapter to
participate. All of the proceeds will go to the Akron
Rotary Camp and The Humane Society.
Alpha Gamma Delta – Omega
Chapter
The Sisters of Alpha Gamma Delta ended the month
of February by hosting a Sisterhood weekend to
cherish our friendships. A great overnight with movies
and games concluded with breakfast in the morning!
The sisters also enjoyed an Etiquette Dinner with
the Men of Phi Gamma Delta and Bowling with the
Men of Pi Kappa Epsilon (Lone Star) in the month of
February. Alpha Gamma Delta’s sported their badge
attire and AGD badges on March 5th in honor of
National Panhellenic Council International Badge Day.
Composite pictures were held on the fifth as well. The
Omega sisters started the month of March strong by
hosting Café A La Alpha Gam, a soup kitchen which
will benefit Camp Quality.
The sisters raised $1277.05 for this Songfest sponsored
charity. The sisters attended the Greek Life Awards
and were thrilled as Omega Chapter took home the
Campus/Greek Involvement Award, Most Improved

Phi Kappa Tau – Alpha Phi
Chapter
We here at Phi Kappa Tau, have been having an
excellent semester! We hope that all other Greek
students have as well! This semester we have completed
136 total community service hours and look to add
more with our participation in the Relay for Life event.
We as a chapter have been doing our best to stay
actively involved in many activities that are offered
to us as a fraternity. We have participated in events
such as socials, intramural sports, and other chapter’s
philanthropy events. We at Phi Kappa Tau held our
annual Volleyball Tournament that supports our
philanthropy, Serious Fun Children’s Network! Thank
you to all of the chapters that participated. We hope
that all students remain positive this semester and finish
on a high note as we head into summer!
Theta Chi
The men of Theta Chi Fraternity have had a very active
spring semester. Our men strove to support many
fellow Greek chapters’ philanthropy events including
FIJI, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma and soon
Phi Kappa Tau. We also greatly look forward to
participating in Songfest as a combined act with the
lovely women of Alpha Gamma Delta. On March 31st,
Theta Chi hosted its Third Annual Ultimate Frisbee
Tournament benefitting Toys for Tots and raised
nearly $300 for a local Akron affiliate. With the hectic
month of April in full swing, Theta Chi is still working
hard to concentrate on academics while managing these
many activities.
Phi Sigma Kappa
The Men at Phi Sigma Kappa have been a busy
bunch. To go with our new Executive Board we have
been working to better our fraternity by updating our
policies on scholarship and risk management. We are
really working towards recruiting the right quality of
members, for which we now have six associates for the
semester. I am proud to say we have been becoming
a more active chapter, and are trying to participate in
more things around campus as well as charity events.
We had a blast at the polar jump to raise money for
cancer, some of the brothers even painted themselves
with our colors for the event. We hope to be holding
our own fundraiser soon in order to raise money for
our Philanthropy, The Special Olympics. We have
been having a great time in intramurals, and cannot
wait to play in some of the other Greek organization’s
events. We had our Founder’s Day back in March, and
it was a great time. A lot of the alumni who came gave
us a lot of good advice as well as some stories of their
favorite moments back in the day. During the weekend
of the 21st a few members are going down to Ohio
State to help rebuild the re-chartering chapter. Have a
great summer. Go Greek!
Before we depart for the summer, the brothers
of Theta Chi will still manage to initiate five new
members, celebrate its 156th birthday, and host its
Red Carnation Ball and Annual Alumni Banquet.
We would like to congratulate all of our newly elected
officers for the up-coming academic year, especially
our new President, Aaron Billow. Lastly, Theta Chi
would like to congratulate and wish luck upon our two
graduating seniors, Jeff Matheny and Rich Testani. We
thank these brothers for their service and dedication
and know they will succeed in all their endeavors. From
the men of Theta Chi, thanks for a great year Greek
Life and have a happy and safe summer!

Delta Gamma – Eta Chapter
The Eta chapter of Delta Gamma has been having
a busy semester. We have had many fundraisers
including our Annual Spaghetti Dinner, Egg-A-Sig
which was a co fundraiser with the men of Alpha Sigma
Phi, our Ice Cream Social which was a huge success
and Pie-A-DG is approaching quickly. We have also
had many sisterhoods that have always ended with great
laughs.
Our Founder’s Day was on March 3rd and was held at
Fairlawn Country Club. We dined with many alumnae
even two 50 year members. We also welcomed
alumna from as far as Arizona to share that special day
with us. Carol Miller Lewis received an award from the
University of Akron called the Alumni Service Award
and many collegiate members received awards too.
Eta chapter will also be receiving the Patricia Peterson
Danielson award from our fraternity. This award is
presented to collegiate chapters that satisfy the award
criteria which adhere closely to the Fraternity standards
for collegiate chapters. This will be presented to us
at our National Convention in June that we are very
excited to be attending in Indianapolis, Indiana. This
will be Delta Gamma’s 65th convention.
Tau Kappa Epsilon
Our chapter is going to be very busy this month with
all of our upcoming events. On April 15th the Akron
and Kent State TKE chapters are trying to break the
world record for the longest telephone. Everybody is
donating three dollars, and we are also selling t-shirts
for twelve dollars. The goal is to get 2,000 people in
the telephone. On April 20th we are contributing to
the philanthropy Relay for Life. The entire chapter
walks around the track to raise money. We also set
up a booth to raise more money. We are going to
sell food and have some kind of fun game. Finally,
on April 27th we are participating in Walk a Mile in
her shoes. This is the international men’s march to
stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Each
member of our chapter is going to walk a mile in high
heels. Every member is going to try to get people to
sponsor them for the walk. Our chapter’s goal is to
raise $4,000.
We would like to offer a special congratulations to Dr.
Karla Mugler, The University of Akron’s Associate
Vice President for the Integrated Student Experience
for being slated for Delta Gamma Fraternity President
for the 2012-2014 years by Delta Gamma Council,
elections will be held this summer at convention.
Phi Gamma Delta – Alpha
Omicron
It’s hard to believe that the semester is coming to an
end so quickly, but it has been an excellent semester for
the men of FIJI. The brothers of the Alpha Omicron
chapter of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) hope everyone has
had a wonderful semester thus far. FIJI is very thankful
4
to all those that participated in our 10th Annual FIJI
Dodgeball Tournament. With your help, and the
help from many others, we raised $1,100 towards the
Akron Children’s Hospital. The men of FIJI have been
busy helping the community in a lot of ways including:
Akron Canton Food Bank, American Red Cross,
Nazareth Housing, and Habitat for Humanity. The
FIJI family is always growing and looking for new ways
to improve our relationship with the community. We
hope that everyone has had a productive semester as
we’ve had, and wish everyone the best of luck on the
rest of the semester and their finals.
Sigma Nu – Kappa Lambda
Chapter
The men of Sigma Nu recently participated in a
philanthropy event at the Turner’s Club a couple
miles off campus. They spent four hours cleaning out
the freezer and doing other various jobs around the
building, such as cleaning windows, kitchen supplies,
and making a clean sweep of the dining area. It was a
very successful philanthropy event and a great chance
for the brothers of Sigma Nu to give back to the Akron
Community.
Sigma Nu will also be participating in Volleyball
Marathon at Mount Union on April 21st, which is the
philanthropy event for the SAE chapter there. It will
be a great day to meet chapters from another University
and have a nice day of volleyball, all you can eat food,
and brotherhood along with helping out a good cause.
The men of Sigma Nu are also currently preparing for
initiation at the end of this month and will be proudly
knighting three more men into the Kappa Lambda
Chapter of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. In addition, they
are also wrapping up Relay for Life activities and MS
Walk plans for later in April as well. Sigma Nu wishes
the rest of the Greek Life Chapters here at Akron a
great rest of the semester.

Alpha Delta Pi
Currently, we are just weeks away from our annual
Lion Share Event; we have always done a bowling
tournament in the past, and decided to try a new
sport this year. We hosted a glow-in-the-dark kickball
tournament on April 13, 2012 on The University
of Akron campus. We had a great time with fellow
Greek community members, friends, and family. All
donations will go towards our national philanthropy,
The Ronald McDonald House. The goal for the event
is that it will help us meet our goal of raising $10,000
dollars and performing 11,000 hours of community
service during the 2011-2012 school year.
Alpha Kappa Alpha – Delta Pi
Chapter
The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc
the Delta Pi Chapter have achieved greatness this
semester. We recently attended the Greek Leadership
Awards and won the following; Most Improved GPA,
Scholastic Achievement, and Chapter Academic
Excellence with a 3.77 GPA. We also received the
Bronze award for Sorority of Excellence.
In April, along with our Lion Share Tournament, we
are planning on having several sisterhood events and
socials with other Greek chapters on campus. One
event that Alpha Delta Pi very excited about is our
Black Diamond Formal, which will be held on April
21st. Our formal will be focused on reflecting on all
the great times we had as a chapter and looking forward
to the future as women of Alpha Delta Pi.
We will be celebrating the spring graduation of Brittani
Davis with a BA in Psychology. When asked her plans
post graduation she stated, “Once I graduate I plan to
further my education in order to utilize art therapy as
my medium for reaching out to children and teens. I
also want to develop workshops for girls and women to
promote self-esteem and empowerment”.
The sisters of Alpha Delta Pi would like to take the
time to wish the rest of the Greek community and
University of Akron students the best of luck as the
semester comes to an end. We would also like to
extend a special wish of luck to all seniors with finals,
graduation, and beyond – you all will be missed.
We continue to celebrate the accomplishments of
Delta Pi with Danielle Thomas. She was accepted into
the College of Pharmacy at North East Ohio Medical
University (NEOMED) and will be attending in the fall!
