Fall 2016 Workshop Catalog Digital Education Collaborative From Process to Published: Class Blogging with WordPress Have you ever wondered how to give students an authentic audience? In this workshop, we will examine the process of implementing class blogging assignments using the Longwood blogs WordPress platform. This workshop will focus on building the technical understandings and the pedagogical processes involved with blogging, including how to structure assignments and assess student work. The Active Learning Platform (ALP) enables instructors to create interactive learning experiences for students using a variety of different technologies. The ALP provides students with a more interactive way to engage with Echo content, which includes the ability to ask and answer questions, participate in interactive activities, and take notes that sync with instructor content. This workshop will introduce some common applications for creating podcasts. This workshop assumes no prior experience with podcasting is designed for anyone interested in podcasting. Respondus LockDown Browser is a separate web browser that locks down a student's computer when they take any assessment that requires the technology. Respondus Monitor is an add­on technology to the LockDown Browser that verifies the student’s identity and records the testing environment. In this workshop, you will get hands­on experience using these tools and learn some best practices in implementing the tools to minimize student test anxiety. Bring a flash drive and download a set of royalty free images for your content area from the DEC’s image library. This workshop addresses Quality Matters standards 6 and 8 and is ideal for anyone preparing for or revising based on a review. We will go over things like course analytics, quiz statistics, assignment rules, module pre­requisites, and a few other things that intermediate to advanced users would find helpful. This is not an overview of Canvas, so this workshop is most appropriate for users with some experience teaching with Canvas, although everyone is welcome.
