Catalan 1. Course presentation and requirements This coursed is focused on the translator's role in the media, specially the written press; it analyses the news media's writing and language in Catalan and Spanish and multilingual editing. This is the reason why the students must be proficient in both Catalan and Spanish. 2. Competencies to be attained: Upon completing the degree programme a host of skills should be attained and this subject addresses the following general (G) and specific (S) skills defined in the form of learning outcomes: ●

Knowing the documentary resources for news writing style. Using these resources in study cases. ●
Oral and written communication in one’s own languages (G.10): ●

Analysing the Catalan and Spanish journalistic style. Reformulating a journalistic text taking into account the needs of the target context. ●

Excellence in the written and oral proficiency of the native language(s): Knowing the journalism genres. Having and accurate, summarised, concise writing with an easy, simple and straightforward style. Writing texts to be read out loud. ●

Specialised knowledge in one or more specific fields (S.5): knowing specific concepts, especially about the press, but also about television, radio and Internet in all of the ways it is displayed and broadcasted. ●
Efficiency in conducting reviews and quality controls in linguistic mediation (S.14): practicing translation revision and quality controlling habits and techniques. 3. Contents ●
