Spanish 1. Course presentation The goal of this course is to delve into the notions seen in other translation subjects. 3: preliminary stage (assignment and working tools), performance stage (understanding, transference, expression) and subsequent stage (review and editing). An introduction is provided to the linguistic features of the language pair. This subject addresses translation as a productive practice rather than one for ponderance with the aim of theory and practice constituting a round­trip journey where every problem enables us to reflect on the reasoning behind the solutions and each theoretical reflection is reflected in the texts proposed. The texts will be largely literary since they entail the greatest methodological difficulty and in seminars the texts will be more general in nature to give students a closer insight into the culture of the source language 2. Competencies to be attained: Upon completing the degree programme a host of skills should be attained and this subject addresses the following general (G) and specific (S) skills: G.2. Situation analysis and problem solving G.13. Team work and individual work skills S.1. Excellence in the written and oral proficiency of the native language(s). S.2. Oral and written receptive proficiency of at least two foreign languages S.4. Knowledge of foreign cultures and civilisations. S.6. Ability to translate general texts 3. Contents Knowledge of the general translation methodology (regardless of the language pair): 1. Comprehension difficulties in the second language 2. The pragmatic/functional perspective (and II): translating texts of various formats (for instance, slide presentations, websites, Excel lists, etc.) and types (for instance, songs, audiovisual productions, etc) Specific knowledge (from the second language into Spanish): 1. Documentation and tools specific to the language pair 2. Micro textual inter­linguistic comparisons in the languages 3. Translation and culture (II): cultural referents 4. ​
Evaluation and reassessment Since this course requires complete knowledge, each activity will evaluate all the competencies. Although the attendance is not compulsory, the students must do the translations they are asked to do at home and must respond when asked to present a translation; otherwise they will be punished with a negative mark. If a student has two negative points he or she will have to do an extra translation in order to be able to sit for the exam.
