Course presentation In this subject the students will be introduced to the basic notions of translation and will review the main linguistic applications useful for translation. The students will also start the practice of translation and will be introduced to assistance tools. 2. Analysing the traductological phenomena from a linguistic approach. Explaining with the appropriate terminology the traductological decision­making processes. 3. Contents 1. Issues caused by the world's linguistic diversity. Possible solutions: constructed languages, international languages, multilingualism and translation and interpreting. 2. Introduction to translatology: the purpose of translation, the actors involved, definitions, essential features and classifying standards. 3. Translation techniques, methods and strategies. 4. The settings of (in)translatability: translation problems and difficulties 5. The translation process: broad sense (socioprofessional approach) and restricted sense (cognitive approach). 6. The lexical frame in translation. 7. The translation error and translation skills. 8. Translating: a textual operation 4.
