Course presentation General goal The course Modern Language: Immersion focuses on acquiring language skills, cultural knowledge and instrumental skills needed to get by in the linguistic context belonging to one of the foreign languages covered by the syllabus. 1.2. Requisites for taking this course a) Drawing up and submitting the Learning Agreement, enrolling in the university abroad and other administrative procedures required in the reception context, during the academic year prior to the stay abroad. b) Definitive choice of courses to be taken, submission of the Learning Agreement —confirmation and changes document at the beginning of the immersion, in accordance with the requirements and deadlines established by UPF's International Relations Services. 2. Situation analysis and problem solving Carrying out all of the administrative procedures necessary for enrolment in the language context chosen. G.4. Documentary and research sources search. Searching for the necessary information in the relevant documentary resources (dictionaries, grammar sources, corpora…) G.13. Team work and individual work skills Working individually or on a team, under the supervision of the assigned tutor. G.15. Adaptability to international environments Living and studying in a foreign university or, in the case of LSC, in an LSC community, respecting the obligations of that context. G.20. Contents * Applied independent work: The individual academic programme will be settled between the student and his or her tutor and will be reflected in the academic agreement and the observance of this agreement. * Sociocultural content: it consists of being up to date with the daily life current affairs regarding politics, economy, culture, etc. 4. Evaluation and reassessment English 2 Evaluation Reassessment Evaluation activity Requirements and remarks The best marks of the courses taken at the host university will count for the evaluation. The activities reflected in the followup document issued by the teacher will count for the evaluation. If a university does not give the student enough marks or if the student fails, he or she will have to take the reassessment exam. The students will have to register for 24 to 30 ECTS credits but only the best marks for 15 of those ECTS will count ⎯ 15 or the nearest higher figure, according to the institution's number of ECTS per subject. The course's whose language of instruction is Spanish will not count for the evaluation, except if they are translation or interpreting subjects. All the students must sit for the language exam (Objective Test_UPF) at UPF after they come back, at the beginning of the second term If a university does not give the student enough marks, the mark of this UPF's Objective Test can complement the results from the host university. 100 % The best marks for 15 ECTS will count for the evaluation 15 or the nearest higher figure, according to the institution's number of ECTS per subject. Methodology: training activities In order to achieve the required level, taking language lessons is strongly advised , apart 5 from carrying out autonomous work, which is essential. The methodology of the immersion done in a university abroad will be defined by the teachers in charge of the courses at the host university. If possible, the students should register for subjects: ● ● ● in the language of immersion in their second foreign language on translation. The rest of the subjects are optative, but they must sit within the host university regulations and must be approved by both the tutor and the mobility coordinator from the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. The immersion's methodology for those who under exceptional circumstances do not carry out their language immersion abroad under an agreement will be settled by the seminar teacher together with the students, in the tutoring sessions and the inclass seminars, and will focus on activities that promote autonomous learning. 6. Basic subject bibliography The courses' bibliography of the immersion done in a university abroad will be defined by the teachers in charge of the courses at each host university. For those who under exceptional circumstances do not carry out their language immersion abroad under an agreement, the courses' bibliography and resources will be defined by the teacher, together with the students, in the seminar sessions. The students will be provided with activities that promote autonomous learning and specific tasks according to each student's profile through the Aula Global. 6
