Add New Folder To add a new Folder, first go to the Site Browser, navigate to the parent folder, select the arrow next to the Add New button and click Folder. 1. Add New Folder (Cont’d.) dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide The Menu shown below will appear. Enter the necessary information for the new Folder and select Save. You can also Right click on the Parent Folder and Create a new folder. For the new Folder to be functional, it must have a page titled “index.dot” (without quotations) such as below. This will allow users to navigate to the folder from the main Akron website. The new default in dotCMS for creating pages omits the .dot extension. This is fine for all files except the index file. The index file must have .dot as the extension. Other pages do not need the .dot extension attached to the page. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 2. Create New Page To create a new page, first select the folder in the Site Browser in which you want the new page to be located. Then click the arrow next to the Add New button and select Page. You can also right click on a folder and select New| Page dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 2. Create New Page (Cont’d.) The below screen will appear. Click Select. You will be taken to this screen where you can edit your page info and Save/Publish the page. You can then use the following instructions to further edit your page. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 3. Edit/Lock System To edit a page, find the page in the Site Browser and double click on the title of the page to open it. You could also Right Click on the title of the page. Then select Open (Preview). (The first option in the menu). Once opened, select Lock for Editing in the upper left-hand corner. To cancel editing, select Release Lock and click Admin Screen to return to the site browser. Doing this will open an Edit tab and allow for editing. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 4. Add New Content To add new content to a webpage, first lock the page for editing. Then select the Add Content button in the desired area of the page. Then select New Content from the drop down menu. The editor will open and you will be able to edit your new content. When finished, always be sure to either Save or Save/Publish your work before releasing the lock on the content. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 5. Edit Content To Edit content already in a page, select Edit Content in the appropriate widget. Next select Lock for Editing. You will now be able to edit as normal. As before, be sure to either Save or Save/Publish your changes before releasing the lock on the content. To cancel editing, select Release Lock. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 6. Upload File Right-click the desired folder location for the file and select +New. Select Image or File to upload a single file or select Multiple Files to upload multiple files to the desired directory Then you will need to select the Asset type and click Select. From here, you can select your file and set your preferences. Publishing the file will then allow it to be viewed through references on other pages. Note: The “single file upload” function does not work in Internet Explorer. Please use the Multiple File option or use a different browser. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 7. WYSIWYG Editor Many changes have been made to the WYSIWYG Editor from Version 2.5. Note the look of the old editor. The look of the new Editor has been reformatted from the old and several functions have moved positions. dotCMS has added a drop-down menu at the top of the editor and several functions have been moved under it. (I.e. Common format functions have been moved under the Formats Drop-down menu. (Shown below)) dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 7. WYSIWYG Editor (Cont’d.) Font Size options have been moved under the Paragraph drop-down menu. The table below shows the functions available under the drop-down menus. Links To create a link, first highlight the desired text and click the Create Link Button. The following screen will show: In the URL box, insert the address of the desired webpage and press OK. If you want the link to be a Button on your page, select a Class of your choice. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 9. Tables To create a table, go to the Table tab and select Insert Table. In the small grid on the right, select the dimensions of your table using the diagram. To make changes to the look of your table, go to Table Properties under the Table tab. Changes can be made to cell size, spacing, etc. Classes can also enhance the appearance of the table on your webpage. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 10. Publish/Unpublish/Archive/Delete Function To Publish a page to your website, click Save / Publish on the left side of the edit content page. The page and its new contents will then be Published for non-logged in users to see. To Unpublish a page, Right-Click on the name of the page in the Site Browser and select Unpublish. To Archive a page, it must first be Unpublished using the method above. Then select Archive under the Right-Click Menu. dotCMS 3.3 Transition Guide 10. Publish/Unpublish/Archive/Delete Function (Cont’d.) To Delete a page, it must first be Archived using the method above. Go to the location of the page and select Show Archived to show the previously archived pages you wish to Delete. Archived pages will then appear at the top of the page list.
