1/ How do University staff make Thrifty bookings? Bookings must be made direct with Orbit Corporate Travel, Hamilton by contacting Orbit’s dedicated consultants via email, phone or by using Orbit Online, the Online booking tool available through Uni-Market. 2/ What is the preferred method of payment? Payment is by PCARD. Unless authorised by UOW where a Purchase Order number has been raised, this will then be on charge back. 3/ Where is the Thrifty Hamilton branch located? Thrifty Hamilton is located at the corner of Anglesea & Clarence Streets. Phone: (07) 839 3450 Email: [email protected] Opening hours are 7:30am-5:00pm weekdays and 8:30am-12:30pm on Saturday and Sunday. 4/ Contact Thrifty for Invoice/Receipts Bookings for Thrifty are via Orbit, and they can also answer all rental vehicle related questions . However, if you need to request a tax invoice (if a rental car was paid direct) for your PCard statement, you can contact the Thrifty accounts team directly on 0800 73 70 70, and select option 0 to request an invoice/receipt. 5/ Who is the contact at Thrifty Hamilton? The Thrifty Hamilton Operations Manager is Sara Brown, Mobile: (029) 201 4361. 6/ What is the ‘preferred’ Thrifty vehicle group for the University of Waikato to book? The preferred vehicle groups are: ECAR (Compact 1.5L – Hyundai Getz or similar). Currently $37.00+GST p/day CCAR (Compact 1.8-2.0L – Corolla or similar). Currently $47.00 +GST p/day 7/ Will Thrifty deliver vehicles? Yes, Thrifty Hamilton will deliver vehicles free of charge to the University, private homes and hotels within a 10km radius of the branch (if booked outside 48 hours). 8/ Is there anywhere to leave private vehicles when picking rentals up from Thrifty Hamilton? Thrifty Hamilton also has a secure parking facility available located at the corner of Anglesea & Clarence Streets. However, this is subject to Car Park Space Availability on the day. 9/ Where will vehicles be parked when they are delivered to the University? Thrifty has been working closely with University security to co-ordinate parking locations for rental cars. In most cases they will be parked in departmental visitor car parks. Where there are no visitor car parks available, Thrifty will advise University security to arrange an appropriate location to leave the vehicle. Vehicles will be marked clearly so they are easily identified by security staff. 10/ Is insurance required for rental vehicles? No, Waikato University is self-insured to include car rental, however for any personal rentals, there will be an insurance coverage fee. 11/ Are drivers licences and a credit cards required when collecting a rental vehicle? Yes, travellers will need to provide a current drivers licence, however a credit card will not be required if the traveller has a P-card that is linked to a Blue Chip profile or reservation. All Blue Chip card holders must also present their current drivers licence, as this a requirement by law. 12/ What is Blue Chip membership card? The Thrifty Blue Chip Express Rental Programme is designed for Thrifty to provide our most frequent customers with the most efficient service each time a vehicle is rented. Blue Chip card holders simply present a valid driving licence and do not need to sign a rental agreement every time they pick up a rental car. 13/ What is the qualification to rent with Thrifty? The minimum rental age is 21 years. All intending drivers must present a valid full national driving licence, which has been held for at least one year. A current International Driving Licence must accompany driving licences issued in a language other than English. 14/ Are there extra charges for additional drivers? There is no extra charge for additional drivers. Minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter. Additional non-employee authorised drivers must be notified to Thrifty and listed on the rental agreement. 15/ Are there any charges for collecting Thrifty vehicles at airports? Rentals commencing at airports and inter-island ferry terminals are subject to a nominal Service Charge (AFSC). The current charge is just $15 plus GST for all locations. 16/ Is fuel included in the rates? Fuel is not included in Thrifty’s rates. Each vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel, which is refilled at the renter’s expense on return. If the vehicle is not returned with a full tank, the renter will be charged for the fuel required to refill the tank at the prevailing rate applicable by Thrifty at the time. 17/ What happens if the rental vehicle has a breakdown or it is involved in an accident? Whilst Thrifty vehicles are regularly maintained, unexpected breakdowns and accidents can occur. Thrifty provides FREE Roadside Assistance, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through the New Zealand Automobile Association (NZAA). 18/ Are there any staff concessions? Thrifty will extend these corporate rates to the staff of the University of Waikato for any of their personal rentals. Please ensure they advise us upon booking that they are utilising their corporate rates for a personal hire. Payment for personal hires must be made at the time of vehicle collection. Personal bookings can be made through Orbit Corporate Travel Hamilton. 19/ Is there any one way fees between Auckland and Hamilton? No one way fees apply for standard car groups (ECAR – FCAR) between Auckland and Hamilton and vice versa. 20/ What do Thrifty do as an organisation to off-set carbon footprint? Thrifty Car Rental has a very strong environmental policy. Thrifty can undertake to offset the vehicle emissions that Waikato University creates when renting Thrifty vehicles in New Zealand. Through our sponsorship of Green Fleet in New Zealand, Thrifty will plant 23 trees (on average) for every 15,000km Waikato University staff drive in Thrifty’s petrol vehicles and provide a certificate of confirmation of the plantings including their location. There are also opportunities for Waikato University staff to become involved in the tree planting process if Waikato University so wishes. 21/ Does Thrifty have rental vans? Yes, Thrifty offer Toyota Hi-Ace 12-seater vans. 12-seater vans are in the XVAR vehicle group. 22/ Are GPS Units available for booking? GPS Units are available with Thrifty and must be pre-booked. These must be booked through Orbit Corporate Travel, Hamilton. GPS Navigation Units are available for hire from all Thrifty NZ branches and may be booked with the rental. Current rates are $11.50/day incl GST. GPS Navigation units have a non-reducible excess of $787.50 incl GST in the event of any damage, loss or theft occurring to the unit or any of its accessories. 23/ Are Thrifty vehicles smoke free? Yes. Thrifty Car Rental has a smoke free policy for its entire vehicle fleet, however should a renter choose to smoke in a Thrifty vehicle, Thrifty reserves the right to charge a valet fee for any smoking odours or residue. 24/ Can I book Thrifty vehicles in Australia? Yes. The University of Waikato have access to specially negotiated Thrifty Car Rental rates in Australia. Bookings either for business or personal rentals, can be made using the Australian CD number (4908005500). 25/ How do I contact at Tauranga Thrifty? Thrifty Tauranga’s direct dial is (07) 5723836 26/ Where is the Tauranga Thrifty Branch? Thrifty Tauranga is located at the Tauranga Airport. 27/ Are deliveries to Tauranga campus free of charge? The Tauranga Thrifty depot is manned with minimal staff, in order to deliver vehicles to the Tauranga campus there will be a charge of $20 for each vehicle delivered. 28/ What if there are any changes to a travellers plan after the vehicle has been collected? Between 8:00 am and 6:00pm, simply contact Orbit Corporate Travel, Hamilton. After 6pm and during weekends and public holidays, Orbit Corporate Travel, Hamilton provides a free after hours service. Simply dial (0800) 225 337 and your call will be directed to a senior Orbit Corporate Travel consultant. 29/ Where are the depot locations throughout New Zealand?
