Molecular systematics in plant evolutionary studies

 Molecular systematics in Plant evolutionary studies
Among the different approaches used in molecular systematics, DNA barcoding is one of the
best techniques which involve sequencing standard region of DNA as a tool for species
identification. At present, we are using these tools to study genetic diversity and phylogenetic
analysis of genus Mucuna, Drimia, and Amorphophallus reported from Indian subcontinent with
special emphasis on study of intimacy between morphologically closely related species. These
plants are rich sources of bioactive molecules and natural wealth of our country. DNA bar
coding will be beneficial for biodiversity studies, classify juvenility, genomic mapping and
molecular diagnostics.
