Cost effective and eco-friendly bioremediation of feather waste and crab shell The growing global population leads to increasing demand but at the same time enormous waste is generated through various food industries among which poultry, sea food processing industries produces a waste biomass consisting noticeable quantities of organic residues such as feather, bone meal, blood, crab shells etc. There is a need to economize and search for the new technological processes. Enzymatic approach of chitinase and keratinase obtained from microbial sources is an efficient option for degradation of crab shell and chicken feathers. All the parameters of these enzymes have been evaluated which would help enormously for reducing unwanted biomass. Additionally, a byproduct having bio fertilizer properties has been obtained which has given desirable results when tested on food crops.
