The Sustainable Research Excellence (SRE) initiative provides funding for the indirect costs
of university research supported by Australian competitive grants. The Department of
Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR) requires permanent staff with a research
component in their employment conditions to complete a staff hours survey. A 67% response
rate is required for CSU to gain funding from the initiative.
Data will be collected and maintained in accordance with the Privacy Act. The data will be deidentified and formatted by data collection staff for submission to DIISR by 31 August 2011. It
will not be available to anyone else for any other purpose.
Further information is available at http://www.csu.edu.au/research/sre/index.htm
Your work in research and contribution to Charles Sturt University are greatly appreciated.
Please help secure our share of the funds that support research by taking time to complete
the data collection.
1
ACCESSING THE SURVEY
Eligible participants can access the SRE Staff Survey through the Web Kiosk.
The survey collection tool is located under the ‘My HR’ Tab.
The survey will open after participants click on the ‘SRE Data Collection’ link in the menu bar.
SELECTING THE RIGHT JOB
Some participants will have multiple job records, where some or all of the participant’s jobs
are relevant to the survey. To avoid needless duplication, the survey will only be attached to
one job record for each participant. Participants should aggregate their efforts across all jobs
in the one survey form.
Kiosk automatically defaults the user job view, so it is important for participants to check that
they are viewing the correct job number that the survey is attached to. The appropriate job
number will be identified on the Survey Invitation notification. If the participant does not have
the correct job number selected, they will not be able to access the survey.
2
Participants can select the appropriate job for the survey by following the steps below:
1.
2.
Expand the ‘My
View’ panel.
Select the
relevant
job.
3.
Click on the
‘Set My View’
button.
Once the participant has set their view appropriately, the following survey form will appear
after clicking on the ‘SRE Data Collection’ link.
Participants should contact [email protected] if they continue to have trouble
accessing the survey.
3
FIELDS OF RESEARCH
Participants will need to select their appropriate fields of research details. Up to three
separate fields of research may be identified. The fields of research must be selected from
the drop down list provided.
FILLING OUT THE SURVEY
Participants must enter the time spent on each of the categories in both week 1 and week 2 in
the tables provided. The time spent should be entered in decimal format.
As submissions will not be counted if they are not completed, participants must enter zero
where no time was spent on a category and day.
4
SAVING AND SUBMITTING THE SURVEY
After participants have finished entering data, they can save the information collected to date
by clicking on the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the form.
The survey will remain open until the 8th of August, and participants may modify data as many
times as they wish whilst the survey is open. Changes will not be saved unless the participant
utilizes the ‘Save’ button.
On final completion of the survey, participants must select the completion acknowledgement
checkbox at the bottom of the form, and then save the survey.
CONTACT
If participants encounter any trouble they should contact the data collection team at
[email protected].
