POLICE PATCH DISPLAY The University of Akron’s Law Enforcement Training Center – Police Academy recently unveiled a labor of love dedicated to fraternity. Nearly 1,000 police patches from around the world were individually glued and mounted to display boards and are currently on display within the Police Academy in the Polsky Building. The patches were donated by retired Silver Lake Police Chief Gary Demoss who had collected them over the years, and had been on display at the Silver Lake Police Department. Recent changes at the department saw the patch collection taken down and relegated to storage boxes. Randy Rivers, who was the academy’s Police Commander at the time, expressed an interest in displaying them and the patches were subsequently donated to the Police Academy by the Silver Lake Police Association. Commander Rivers commented that “[E]ach patch represents not only an organization, but a culture that makes up a global fraternity in the realm of public safety and it is truly inspiring.” The Law Enforcement Training Center here in Summit College at The University of Akron has been heralded as being one of the best training facilities in the region; training young men and women seeking a career in Law Enforcement.
